Bethlehem, PA - The 2001 field hockey season has come to an end for the Mountain Hawks, and two Lehigh seniors have earned postseason awards. Midfielder Cindy Tindall has been named to the All-Patriot League first team, and will also participate in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I North/South Senior All-Star Game. Forward Jane Knowles was named to the all-league second team.
Tindall, a tri-captain, led Lehigh in scoring with 17 points on the season. By scoring nine goals and posting a team-best nine assists, Tindall had a hand in over half of the Mountain Hawks' goals scored. Her nine assists on the season placed her third in the league. Tindall was previously an all-league second team selection in both her sophomore and junior seasons.
Knowles was a leader on the field, and was an instrumental part of Lehigh's corner unit. She was responsible for holding the opposition's leading scorer in check. Though she did not score a goal, the tri-captain recorded six helpers on the season. Her selection to the all-league second team marks her first Patriot League postseason honor.
"I couldn't be happier for both Cindy and Jane," said Lehigh head coach Michelle Finegan.
"Cindy's stick work is among the best at the Division I level. She has great field vision, a strong hit, and tremendous block tackling timing. She is a tremendously gifted athlete."
"Jane is the heart of our team," Finegan continued. "She has a spitfire attitude, and is aggressive and tough to beat."
In addition to being an all-league first team selection, Tindall will represent Lehigh in the 2001 NFHCA Division I North/South Senior All-Star Game. That contest will take place on Saturday, November 17 at Dix Stadium on the campus of Kent State University.
After a slow start, the Mountain Hawks turned the corner and won five of their final nine contests. Lehigh ended the season with a Patriot League record of 3-4, and was one win shy of qualifying for the league tournament, which was held November 2-3 at Holy Cross.
