All non-League games do not factor into the seeding or championship qualifying process. Ties within each mini-conference will be broken before any ties in the overall championship seeding. Seeding is based on mini-conference finish and regular-season League winning percentage. In the case of ties, ties will be broken from top to bottom.
DETERMINING THE PATRIOT LEAGUE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
The mini-conference winners are based upon their mini-conference record.
• Each of the three mini-conference winners earns a spot into the championship field and hosts a quarterfinal game. Those teams are seeded (one through three) by their overall League record winning percentage. If there remains a tie, then the following procedure will be used to determine the seeding:
1. Head-to-head record, if applicable
2. Record versus common opponents
3. Winning percentage within its mini-conference
4. Coin toss or draw [shown on Zoom]
• The fourth through 10th seeds are determined by the following procedure, with the team with the highest winning percentage among the non-mini-conference-winning teams earning the fourth seed and the right to host a quarterfinal game. The seventh and eighth seeds earn the right to host for the first-round games.
1. Best overall League winning percentages
2. Head-to-head record, if applicable
3. Comparison winning percentage vs. non-tied common opponents starting at the highest possible seed and continuing through the lowest seed
4. Coin toss or draw [shown on Zoom]
MINI-CONFERENCE TIEBREAKER
At the end of the regular season, if two or more teams in the same mini-conference finish with identical won-lost percentages within the mini-conference, the following procedure will be used to determine the seeding to determine the mini-conference champion:
Two Teams
1. Head-to-head record between the tied teams (mini-conference games only)
2. Best winning percentage versus common opponents within mini-conference excluding the tied teams
3. Best winning percentage versus common opponents outside the mini-conference
4. Best overall winning percentage
5. Coin toss or draw [shown on Zoom]
Three or more Teams
1. Head-to-head record between the tied teams (mini-conference games only)
2. Best winning percentage versus common opponents within the mini-conference excluding the tied teams
3. Best winning percentage versus common opponents outside the mini-conference, if applicable
4. Best overall record winning percentage
5. Coin toss or draw [shown on Zoom]
BREAKDOWN OF MINI-CONFERENCES: North – Army West Point, Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross; Central – Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh; South – American, Loyola Maryland, Navy
Tie-Breaking Operating Procedure
1. All ties are broken in descending order.
2. The entire process for multiple-team ties must be completed. The Patriot League does not revert to the two-way tie formula once the multiple-team tie has been resolved. The League continues through the steps with any remaining tied teams until the tie is brok
