Jan. 26, 2003

Junior Howard Blue scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Colgate to a 52-48 Patriot League win over Navy at Alumni Hall Sunday afternoon. Colgate (8-10, PL 3-2) wins for only the second time on the road this season in 10 games, as the Raiders beat Navy for the second straight time. Navy (5-13, PL 1-4) drops its second straight contest.

Also in double figures for the Raiders were Mark Linebaugh with 13 points and Dave Hardy with 11 points. Linebaugh moved into 28th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 840 points.

Francis Ebong and Scott Long led Navy with 15 points apiece.

Colgate held a 17-point lead in the first half, 26-9, with 10:16 remaining, before the Mids closed the opening half with a 17-6 run to trail, 32-26, at intermission.

In the second half, Navy scored the first six points to tie the contest at 32-32, and over the next 10 minutes the contest was tied nine times. Ebong scored with 5:19 left to give the Mids a 48-46 lead, but that would be the last points Navy scored in the contest.

Blue tied the game at 48-48 with a jumper, and Linebaugh hit a game-winning jumper off glass two minutes later to break the tie. Colgate's Alvin Reed added a basket and Andrew Zidar hit a final free throw to close out the scoring.

Navy outshot Colgate from the field 52 percent to 41 percent, but the Raiders held the Mids without a 3-point field goal, while making five themselves. Colgate controlled the rebounding 29-23 led by Blue with seven, and Linebaugh and Zidar with five apiece.
