EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -Senior midfielder Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa.) has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for the 2003 season, as voted by the head coaches of the league. Stone garnered unanimous honors, giving the Leopards three straight Offensive Player of the Year accolades, following 2001 and 2002 winner Megan Monahan.
Stone, who has four hat tricks this season, leads the Patriot League and is tied for second in the NCAA Division I in goals scored with 23. Combined with her two assists, Stone is also tied for fifth in the nation with 48 points. Stone is set to finish her career second on all three of the Patriot League's offensive charts, including points (133), goals (50) and assists (33). She also leads the League with offensive honors, being named Offensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Seniors Melissa Hoh (Zionsville, Pa.) and Stephanie Goldman (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) join Stone on the All-Patriot League First Team. Hoh earns her second straight first team accolades after contributing five goals and three assists this season. Goldman, who was an All-Patriot League Second-Team honoree last season, makes the jump to the first-team after finishing the regular season second on the team with five assists. Goldman, a tri-captain in 2003, helped lead a defense that allowed only 1.77 goals per game.
Senior Meredith Hahn makes her second straight appearance on the All-Patriot League Second Team. Hahn leads the league and is tied for eighth in the NCAA with 14 assists this season, which is the second highest single-season total in Patriot League history. Hahn also holds the first spot, with last season's 20 assists. She also scored five goals in 2003 to finish second on the team with 24 points. Hahn enters the League Tournament as the Patriot League's career leader in assists with 45.
The Leopards will travel to Worcester, Mass. on Friday, Nov. 8 to take on regular season champion American in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament. The winner of that game will go on to face either #2 Holy Cross or #3 Bucknell in the championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m.
