American's Comstock Named NACDA Regional AD of Year

Winners will be honored this week at the NACDA Convention

Washington, D.C.- American University Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Joni Comstock was named the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Division I-AAA Southeast Region GeneralSports TURF Systems Athletic Director of the Year, NACDA officials announced Tuesday.

Comstock is in her third year as the AD with the Eagles. During her tenure, she has headed a department that has won 13 Patriot League titles. In addition, American recently announced that its 243 student-athletes compiled a combined 3.3 grade point average in the Spring 2006 semester, the highest ever in AU Athletics history.

The award recognizes athletics directors at all levels for positive contributions to their campuses and surrounding communities, according to NACDA Executive Director Mike Cleary.

Twenty-nine winners were selected in four geographic regions - northeast, southeast, central and west - and in seven categories - Division IA, I-AA, I-AAA, D-II, D-III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges.

Comstock will be honored at this week's James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon at the NACDA Convention in New Orleans, La.
