Hamilton, N.Y. - Colgate University volleyball head coach Ryan Baker has announced the hiring of Lynsey Somers as the assistant coach. Somers will assist Baker in all aspects of the program.

"I am extremely excited to have a coach with Lynsey's experience and commitment to volleyball in our program," head coach Ryan Baker said. She knows what it takes to recruit at a liberal arts institution which will be extremely beneficial. Her passion and positive attitude makes her the perfect match for our program."

Prior to coming to Colgate, Somers served as an assistant coach for the Saints' volleyball and track teams for two seasons at St. Lawrence University.

Somers is a 2004 graduate of Defiance College where she was an all-conference performer in both volleyball and track.

She captained the Yellow Jackets' volleyball team to a 26-5 overall record her senior year, compiling 217 kills and 77 blocks to earn second-team all-HCAC honors.

On the track Somers garnered all-conference recognition and was the MVP of the field events both her junior and senior seasons. She holds the Defiance records in the triple jump and 400 hurdles and was part of a record-setting 4x400 relay team. She was named the Defiance College Distinguished Athlete Award winner for 2004.
