2006-07 Patriot League Championships Dates and Sites

Center Valley, Pa. - The Patriot League has announced its Fall and Winter Championship dates with six slated for the Fall and six for the Winter.
The Patriot League Championship season will open on Saturday, Oct. 28 with the Men and Women's Cross Country Championship that will be held at Colgate University. All eight institutions will participate, including last year's champions, American on the men's side and Bucknell on the women's. The NCAA Cross Country Regionals will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 at nine different locations, while the NCAA Championship will be held on Monday, Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Three Patriot League Championships will be held the following weekend, including men's soccer, women's soccer and field hockey. Each of these championships will be held at the site of the highest seed with the top four teams, according to the Patriot League regular-season standings, qualifying.
The Patriot League Men's Soccer Championship will play its two semifinal games on Friday, Nov. 3 and the final on Sunday, Nov. 5. Last year's champion was Lafayette, winning it's sixth-ever Patriot League title. The 2006 NCAA Tournament will begin with first-round play Friday, Nov. 10.
Also, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 5 is the Patriot League Women's Soccer Championship. The 2005 title was captured by the No. 4 seed in the tournament, Bucknell, for its second-ever Patriot League crown. The winner of this year's Patriot League Women's Soccer Championship will receive an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Championship, which begins Friday, Nov. 10.
Rounding out the first weekend of November is the Patriot League Field Hockey Championship, with semifinal play scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4 and the final on Sunday, Nov. 5. The nationally-ranked American squad has captured the Patriot League Field Hockey Championship the last three seasons. NCAA Field Hockey Championship play is set to being on Saturday, Nov. 11.
The final Patriot League Championship in the fall is the Patriot League Volleyball Championship which will take place on Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18 at the site of the highest seed. The top-four teams according to the Patriot League regular-season standings will participate in the tournament. American came out on top in 2005, winning the Patriot League Volleyball Championship the last five years. The 2006 NCAA Volleyball Championship will kick off Thursday, Nov. 30.
The 2007 winter season will feature six Patriot League Championships, all full-field, including men and women's indoor track and field, men and women's swimming and diving and men and women's basketball.
From Thursday, Feb. 15 to Saturday, Feb. 17, the 2007 Patriot League Men and Women's Swimming and Diving Championship will be contested in Lewisburg, Pa. The swimming and diving championship includes all eight Patriot League schools and will be held at Bucknell University's Arthur J. Kinney Natatorium. A year ago Navy took home the men's title, while Bucknell captured the women's. The 2007 NCAA Championship will take place Thursday, March 8-Saturday, March 10 for the men and Thursday, March 15-Saturday, March 17 for the women.
The Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship will feature all eight Patriot League schools and will be held at the U.S. Military Academy in Gillis Field House from Friday, Feb. 16-Sunday, Feb. 18. Last year's champions were the Army men's team and the Bucknell women's team. This year's NCAA Championship will be held Friday, March 9-Saturday, March 10.
The winter championship season will conclude with the always popular men and women's basketball tournaments. In 2006, the Bucknell men took home their second-straight Patriot League title, while the Army women were first-time winners.
The Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament will feature a new format for 2007, with quarterfinal and semifinal games played on the home court of each higher seed. The quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at four different sites. The semifinals will take place on Sunday, March 4 at two sites. The 2007 Patriot League Men's Basketball Championship game is slated for Friday, March 9. First-round action of the 2007 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship will begin Thursday, March 15 or Saturday, March 16.
The scene of the 2007 Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals and semifinals will be Navy's Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md. The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, March 3, followed by semifinal action on Sunday, March 4. The championship game will played at the site of the highest remaining seed on Wednesday, March 7. The winner of the 2007 Patriot League Tournament will move on to the NCAA Tournament, which begins either Saturday, March 17 or Sunday, March 18.
