Three Patriot League student-athletes were selected during the Major Lacrosse League College Draft on May 31. Navy's Billy Looney was picked with the fifth overall selection of the draft by the Chicago Machine, while Colgate's Colin Hulme was selected in the second round (16th overall) by the San Francisco Dragons. The Philadelphia Barrage picked Ian Dingman in the third round with the 30th overall pick.
Looney becomes the first Patriot League student-athlete to be selected in the first round of the MLL Draft. In 2005, Graham Gill of Navy was a second-round selection of the New Jersey Pride.
Looney garnered First-Team All-Patriot League accolades three times during his career in Annapolis, in addition to earning the Patriot League Rookie of the Year award in 2004. He also was a three-time All-America pick. Looney helped the Midshipmen to four successive Patriot League titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, and recorded more than 100 points during his career at Navy.
The 2007 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Hulme helped the Raiders' defense finish among the nation's best in scoring defense. A two-time All-Patriot League selection and Hulme is the first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year from Colgate in Patriot League history.
Dingman received First-Team All-Patriot League recognition three times and led the Mids in 2007 with 33 goals. He ranks among the career leaders in several offensive categories at Navy, including fourth place in career points (188). In addition, he is only the third player in school history to score at least 100 points and tally 50 assists.
In addition, all three student-athletes also played in the 2007 USILA North-South Classic.
Since 2002, 14 Patriot League student-athletes have been selected in the annual MLL Collegiate Draft, including three during each of the past four MLL drafts.
Overall, the 2007 draft consisted of five rounds with 10 selections in each round.
