Center Valley, Pa. - Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced Monday the hiring of Kerry Kenny as the Patriot League Media and External Relations Assistant.
"We are very pleased that Kerry will be joining the Patriot League office staff," Femovich said. "His experiences as a sports writer for his school newspaper, as well as being a former Patriot League student-athlete, will be valuable assets in his role as the Media and External Relations Assistant."
"I am truly excited to have the opportunity to work for a conference with a reputation such as that of the Patriot League," said Kenny. "After experiencing the pride of being a student-athlete at one of our league's institutions, I am anxious to get started, and to be able to give back to a conference that gave me such a great experience over the past four years."
Kenny will assist in all areas of media and external relations, serving as the primary contact for various Olympic sports. He will also contribute to the Patriot League's championship administration.
Kenny comes to the Patriot League from one of its very own member institutions - Lafayette College. Kenny, a 2007 graduate of Lafayette, was a three-time letterwinner on the men's basketball team and served as a team captain for the 2006-07 season. The economics and business major was named to the Lafayette Athletic Honor Roll three times during the course of his career.
The Richboro, Pa., native currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He was appointed to this position in January 2007 and will preside as vice chair until January 2008. He will then serve as Chair of the NCAA SAAC from January 2008 to January 2009.
As the NCAA SAAC Vice-Chair, Kenny plays one of two lead roles at each of the in-person SAAC meetings. He also sits on other NCAA committees, including Management Council, Faculty Athletics Representative Association, Student Athlete Reinstatement Committee, Division I National SAAC Administration Team and Strategic Planning Subcommittee and SAAC Website Development Subcommittee, and serves as an editor of the SAAC Newsletter.
Kerry began his involvement in the SAAC at the campus level in 2005, and then joined the Patriot League SAAC in the Fall of 2006. In July 2006 he was appointed the Patriot League's representative to the NCAA SAAC, as each Division I conference must have a student-athlete representative.
While on College Hill, Kenny was a sports writer for The Lafayette and was involved in the Sports Marketing Club. He also spent summers working at basketball camps such as Roy Williams' Basketball Camp in Chapel Hill, N.C. and Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp in Frostburg, Md.
