Center Valley, Pa.- American freshman goalkeeper Matt Makowski is the ECAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, while Army sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lostetter earned the organization's Women's Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week honor, announced on Tuesday.
Makowski was 2-0 last week, allowing only one goal while notching nine saves in American's 4-1 victory over No. 25 Georgetown. The freshman keeper also shut out Patriot League opponent Lehigh, 1-0 last Saturday. The shutout out was the freshman keeper's fourth of the season and second in Patriot League play.
The Eagles are 6-5-2 overall and 2-0-1 in Patriot League action. American will host Patriot League-leading Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.
Lostetter recorded her third straight shutout in a 1-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday. It was Lostetter's second consecutive game with seven saves, with five of her saves coming in the second half. The sophomore made back-to-back stops within a span of 44 seconds in the second half to preserve the shutout for Army and improve to 9-4 this season. The shutout was Lostetter's fourth in Patriot League play in 2008.
Army is 11-4-0 overall and 4-0 in Patriot League play. The Black Knights will host archrival Navy in a marquee match-up of the League's top two teams on Saturday.
