Oct. 30, 2008

Center Valley, Pa. - Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced Thursday the hiring of Patrick Janssen as the Patriot League Assistant Media Relations Director.

"I am very pleased to welcome Patrick to the Patriot League staff," Femovich said. "I am confident that he will serve a significant role in our media relations efforts as well as the administration of our League championships."

"I am very excited to be joining an organization as highly regarded as the Patriot League," Janssen said. "The Patriot League represents everything that is good about college athletics. It has proven to be a competitive League, while also placing a strong emphasis on the character of its student-athletes. To be affiliated with such a high-caliber operation means a lot to me."

Janssen will serve as the main media contact for six Patriot League sports, including women's basketball, men's lacrosse, field hockey, volleyball, softball and rowing.

Janssen comes to the Patriot League from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications for the last year. At VCU, Janssen was the primary contact for women's basketball, women's soccer and men's golf, while also assisting with the Rams' website, publications, public address announcing and media outreach.

Prior to VCU, Janssen worked as the Assistant Director for Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Winston-Salem Warthogs, a Single A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. He was the color commentator and assistant play-by-play broadcaster, while also writing press releases and weekly newsletters and maintaining team statistics.

Janssen started his career in the broadcasting field. For two years, Janssen was the sports and news director at KTCH Radio in Wayne, Nebraska. He provided play-by-play coverage for Wayne State College football, basketball, baseball and volleyball, in addition to several high school teams. He also provided daily news and sports coverage for northeast Nebraska.

A graduate of Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, Janssen earned the school's Mass Communications Student of the Year honor in his senior year, along with the Nebraska Collegiate Media Golden Leaf Award.
