Center Valley, Pa. - Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced Wednesday the hiring of Ashley Hicks as Patriot League Media and External Relations Intern.

"I am very pleased to welcome Ashley to the Patriot League staff," Femovich said. "I am confident that she will contribute significantly to our media and external relations effort as well as the administration of our League championships."

"I am very excited to begin my career in media relations with the Patriot League," Hicks said. "I believe the staff will mentor me and teach me the necessary skills to become a well-rounded media relations professional."

Hicks will serve as the main media relations contact for 13 Patriot League sports, including men's and women's soccer, women's lacrosse, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track, men's and women's swimming and diving and men's and women's tennis.

Hicks graduated from the University of Southern California in May of 2008 with a degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in communication law and media policy. During the 2007-08 school year, she worked in the USC sports information office and assisted with programs and in-game statistics for the nationally-ranked men's basketball team.

In addition to her work in the sports information office, Hicks has experience in both broadcast news and community relations. She filmed, edited, produced and interviewed for sports broadcasts for USC Annenberg Television News during all four of her years at Southern California. Hicks completed internships with Fox Sports Network and WMAQ-TV in Chicago.

Hicks also served as the community relations intern for the WNBA Chicago Sky in the summer of 2007. There, she assisted with player appearances at community events and ticket donations and served as the ticket contact for community groups.

Hicks was one of nine national recipients of the 2007-08 NCAA Freedom Forum Sports Journalism Scholarship Award, given for excellence in sports journalism. She also received a USC Presidential Scholarship and earned Dean's List honors with a cumulative 3.70 grade point average. Hicks is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
