Bucknell Leads Patriot League Presidents' Cup Standings After Fall Season

Center Valley, Pa. - After the fall season, Bucknell leads the pack in the race for the Patriot League Presidents' Cup. The Bison have 38 points, four ahead of second-place American. Six of the Patriot League's eight teams won a Patriot League Championship in the fall. Of those, Bucknell was the only school to claim multiple titles. The Patriot League's seven fall sports include men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball and football.

Behind the Bison and the Eagles are Colgate (31) and Lehigh (30.25). Rounding out the standings are Holy Cross (24), Lafayette (23.25), Army (23) and Navy (22.75).

Bucknell, which won the men's soccer title, also leads the men's race with 16.5 points. The Bison hold a slight edge over second-place Lehigh (16). Rounding out the men's standings are Holy Cross (14), American (13.75), Colgate (11), Lafayette, (10.75), Navy (10) and Army (5). Besides Bucknell's soccer team, this year's men's fall champions included Navy in cross country and Holy Cross in football.

On the strength of its women's cross country title, Bucknell also leads the women's race with 21.5 points. The Bison hold an edge over American (20.25), Colgate (20), Army (18), Lehigh (14.25), Navy (12.75), Lafayette (12.5) and Holy Cross (10). Besides the Bucknell cross country team, this year's women's fall champions included American in field hockey, Colgate in soccer and Army in volleyball.

Patriot League Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on a team's performance in the regular season and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, football, golf, rowing, swimming and diving and track and field, the points are awarded on the final team standing.

Bucknell took home its 15th Patriot League Presidents' Cup at the conclusion of the 2008-09 year. Army is the only other team in League history to win the cup, taking home four trophies (1994, 1995, 1997, 2005). Bucknell also claimed their 15th women's title last season, while Army won its first trophy of any kind since 2004-05 by taking the title on the men's side.
