CENTER VALLEY, Pa.- The Patriot League and its eight full-member institutions once again celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day in February, which is an annual event put on and promoted by the Women's Sports Foundation.
The NGWSD celebration took on special meaning in 2012, as this year marks the 40th anniversary of the revolutionary Title IX legislation, which paved the way for equal opportunities for women in both the academic and athletic realms.
This year the Patriot League, with the help of its member institutions, profiled one student-athlete from each of the eight schools in conjunction with the NGWSD celebration. The features were executed during both the fall and winter seasons.
The eight profiled student-athletes include: American volleyball player Sara Rishell; Army women's basketball player and track and field athlete Jessica Waggoner; Bucknell field hockey player Rachel Misko; Colgate swimmer Erica Derlath; Holy Cross women's basketball player Alex Smith; Lafayette women's soccer player Lauren Smedley; Lehigh softball player Julie Fernandez; and Navy women's lacrosse player Jasmine DePompeo.
All eight videos are available on Patriot League All-Access, which can be accessed here, or by going to the Patriot League's official YouTube channel, located here. In addition, each of the eight features are embedded here in alphabetical order by school.
The Patriot League extends its gratitude to each of the eight schools and its student-athletes for their flexibility, availability and willingness to participate in these features.
