CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Patriot League Council of Presidents discussed a wide range of issues at its biannual meeting last week at The University Club in New York City.
The Council affirmed the Patriot League's Code of Conduct, which requires the highest standards in ethical conduct by all institutional personnel and demands commitment to integrity and fair play in all athletic endeavors. The Council updated the Code of Conduct's language on public criticism or derogatory statements to include all forms of social media, as well as other verbal or written communication, by any Patriot League administrator or student-athlete.
The Council of Presidents also engaged in discussion on a number of items impacting student-athletes in the Patriot League. The group talked about early recruitment, study abroad opportunities for student-athletes and the national landscape due to ongoing conference realignment. The Council discussed its enthusiasm for incoming new members Boston University and Loyola University Maryland, which will both officially join the Patriot League on July 1, and the strength and stability of the League as it grows to 10 full members. In addition, the Council received a report on the continued development of the Patriot League Leadership Academy and the expansion of selected League championships.
The Council of Presidents will transition its leadership on the Executive Committee effective on July 1. Dr. Cornelius M. Kerwin, President of American University, will take over as the Chair of the Council of Presidents. Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J., President of the College of the Holy Cross, will serve as the Vice Chair, with United States Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Admiral Michael H. Miller, USN, also serving on the Executive Committee. Dr. John F. Axelson, College of the Holy Cross, will continue to serve as the Chair of the Policy Committee.
The Patriot League Council of Presidents holds two annual meetings, one in December and another in June.
