Patriot League Weekly Awards - 9.15.14

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Patriot League announced its weekly awards for Sept. 8-14 in men and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball and men and women's cross country.

Corvias Patriot League Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

CORVIAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAMIE DUBYOSKI, NAVY Jr., F, Catonsville, Md.
Dubyoski scored a pair of game-winners to propel the Mids to victories over #10 Maryland and Central Connecticut State. The junior split a pair of Maryland defenders to put Navy in front 2-1 in the 53rd minute, a goal that would hold up for Navy's first win over the Terps since 1984. In addition to the goal in a 3-1 win over CCSU, he added an assist on an insurance goal in the 85th minute. With five points for the week, Dubyoski now leads Navy with eight points this season.

CORVIAS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RYAN TUCK, LOYOLA MARYLAND So., D, Stokesley, England
Tuck was the lone player to log all 200 minutes in an unbeaten week (1-0-1) for the Greyhounds. The sophomore scored his first collegiate goal, on his only shot of the game, midway through the second half of a 1-1 double overtime tie with Stetson. Tuck also anchored a defense that allowed only eight shots and three corners in a 1-0 win over Drexel.

CORVIAS GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
DYLAN HOBERT, AMERICAN Jr., GK, Carrollton, Ga. Hobert continues to be a backbone for AU and their rise to No. 19 in the national rankings. The junior picked up two wins at the Captiol Cup, improving to 5-1-0 this year and made several clutch saves down the stretch against Milwaukee to preserve his third shutout of the year. Hobert now boasts a 0.49 Goals Against Average, .842 save percentage and has recorded 16 total saves on the season.

CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
DOYLE TUVESSON, LEHIGH Fr., F, Kennett Square, Pa.
Tuvesson recorded his first career goal, heading home a pass from Austin Decker early in the first half, to give Lehigh a 1-0 road victory over Rhode Island. The freshman was able to make a run behind the Rams back line and deliver the game-winner from about eight yards away.

HONORABLE MENTION

JESSE KLUG, BUCKNELL Jr., F, Sammamish, Wash.
Klug scored a goal and assisted on the other three as Bucknell won for the fourth time in five games with a 4-0 victory over Howard.

DALE LUDWIG, AMERICAN So., F, Palmyre, Va.
Ludwig scored game-winning goals against Hartwick and Milwaukee as the Eagles swept a pair of games in the Capitol Cup.

WINSTON BOLDT, ARMY Sr., GK, St. Louis, Mo.
Boldt recorded a shutout for the fourth consecutive game in a win over Binghamton and 0-0 tie with Quinnipiac. The senior now hold the career mark for shutouts with 20 for the Black Knights.

JOSEPH GREENSPAN, NAVY Sr., D, Westfield, N.J.
Greenspan had several clears and won many balls against Maryland's forwards in a 1-0 win over the #10 Terps. Also provided support for a freshman goalkeeper making his first start in the win over CCSU.

BRIAN VAIL, LEHIGH Jr., M/D, Laguna Beach, Calif.
Made three goal-saving defensive plays, including clearing a ball off of the back line, to help Lehigh preserve a 1-0 win at Rhode Island.

JORDAN MANLEY, AMERICAN Sr., D, Columbia, Md.
Manley, a senior co-captain and starting right back, helped hold Hartwick to four shots on goal and Milwaukee to only five as American posted two wins in the Capitol Cup.

Corvias Patriot League Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

CORVIAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KENDALL HAM, BUCKNELL Fr., M, Stratham, N.H.
Ham turned in a 3-goal, 7-point week to help the Bison to a trio of victories. The freshman recorded two goals and an assist in a 7-1 rout of Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, and then scored in the 69th minute Sunday to snap a 1-1 tie and give Bucknell a 2-1 road win over defending Atlantic Sun champion Jacksonville. Ham is now Bucknell's leading scorer with 10 points on four goals and two assists this season.

CORVIAS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KELLY SANTANGELO, LOYOLA MARLYAND Sr., D, Sayville, N.Y.
Santangelo had three defensive saves to help preserve shutout victories over Towson and Mount St. Mary's. The Sayville, N.Y. native knocked out two Towson shots on Friday to keep the Tigers scoreless and headed away an offensive attempt off the backline on Sunday to maintain the shutout victory against Mount St. Mary's. Santangelo helped limit Towson's leading scorer to no goals and only one shot on goal.

CORVIAS GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
BRENNA MASON, COLGATE So., GK, Webster, N.Y.
Mason came up big in Colgate's wins over top-100 RPI teams Syracuse and Harvard last week. The sophomore turned away two potential Orange goals in each half on Friday, including a point-blank stop of `Cuse Alex Lamontagne late in the first half and another on Sheridan Street with 15 minutes remaining to preserve the 1-0 win. Mason followed that up with another clean sheet on Sunday in a 1-0 win over Harvard for the tenth career shutout and fifth on the season.

CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
EMILY CRICHLOW, COLGATE Fr., F, Edmonds, Wash.
Crichlow netted the third goal of her young career early in Colgate's 1-0 win Friday over Syracuse. After receiving a throw 22-yards out from Lauren D'Amico, the Edmonds, Washington, native saw an opening and fired a shot that blew past Orange keeper, MacKenzie Moranz, striking the crossbar and redirecting down over the line for what proved to be the game-winner. Crichlow leads the Raiders with three goals and six points on the season.

HONORABLE MENTION

CARLY MCCABE, HOLY CROSS Sr., GK, Barrington, R.I.
McCabe turned away 10 shots in a shutout win over North Dakota State and 1-1 tie with Fairfield. The goals by the Stags was only the second the senior has allowed this season.

MADDIE BOCCIO, LOYOLA MARYLAND So., M, Laurel, Md.
Boccio contributed at least one point in each of the Greyounds wins in a 2-0 week with a goal vs. Mount St. Mary's and an assist on the game winner against Towson.

RACHEL HUNTER, NAVY Sr., M, Raleigh, N.C.
Hunter netted her first goal of the season in a 1-1 tie with Maryland and assisted Morgan Dankanich for the game-winner late in a 2-1 win over Marist.

JULIE SCHUMACHER, NAVY Sr., D, Plantation, Fla.
Schumacher assisted on three of the Mids four goals in a 1-0-2 week.

COREY PERRSON, COLGATE Jr., F/D, Danvers, Mass.
Perrson was a force off the bench in helping the Raiders post back-to-back shutouts in wins over Syracuse and Harvard.

COLLEEN FOLAN, LOYOLA MARYLAND Sr., GK, Downingtown, Pa.
Folan made six saves and did not allow a goal in recording shutouts over Towson and Mount St. Mary's.

Corvias Patriot League Field Hockey Weekly Awards

CORVIAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
AMIE PRITCHARD, BUCKNELL Sr., M, Rumson, N.J.
Pritchard scored the lone goal in overtime as Bucknell earned a 1-0 victory at No. 14 Princeton on Sunday. Pritchard also assisted on the Bison's first goal in a 4-0 shutout of Saint Joseph's on Friday as Bucknell won twice to post its best start since 2006 with a 4-1 record. She earns her second Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award, with the other coming in 2012.

CORVIAS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LIZ WILLS, BUCKNELL Sr., D, Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
One week after being named Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, Wills receives the honor on defense for her play in a pair of shutouts for the Bison last week. Bucknell blanked Saint Joseph's 4-0 on Friday, then topped No. 14 Princeton 1-0 in overtime on Sunday for its third straight shutout. Wills also keyed the offense against the Hawks with a goal and an assist in the victory, and leads the Patriot League with four goals and 10 points this season. Wills earns her second Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week award to go with last week's honor on offense.

CORVIAS GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
SHANNON KEEN, BUCKNELL Jr., GK, Hatfield, Pa.
Keen continued her stellar play in goal for the Bison with a total of 10 saves in a pair of shutouts last week, including seven in a 1-0 overtime triumph at No. 14 Princeton on Sunday. It was her second solo shutout of the season after Keen did most of the work with 64:16 played and three saves in a 4-0 blanking of Saint Joseph's on Friday. The Bison have three straight shutouts for the first time since 1999, and the team's 217:23 scoreless streak is the longest since that season with Keen playing nearly all of the time in net. She has given up just one goal during Bucknell's four-game win streak. Keen is Bucknell's first Corvias Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week since Erica Perrine won the award three times in 2012.

CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
ELLEN COLBOURNE, LAFAYETTE Fr., M, New Westminster, B.C.
Colbourne tallied the game-winning goal as Lafayette posted a 4-2 victory over Liberty in the home opener for the Leopards on Friday. Colbourne broke a 2-2 tie in the 58th minute when she scored unassisted on a shot from the top of the circle. It was the first collegiate goal for Colbourne, who is tied for the Patriot League lead with three assists and earns the Corvias Rookie of the Week award for the second time.

KELSEY MEAD, LAFAYETTE Sr., F, Manasquan, N.J.
Mead had two goals and an assist in two games for the Leopards last week.

GABBY TOFIG, LEHIGH So., F, Newtown, Pa.
Tofig had both of Lehigh's goals in a 2-1 overtime victory against Towson on Sunday, and totaled 12 shots in the contest.

AMANDA CASSERA, BOSTON UNIVERSITY So., F, Fairfield, N.J.
Cassera scored the tying goal in the 59th minute of Boston University's 2-1 overtime loss at No. 15 Boston College on Friday.

NATALIE KONERTH, AMERICAN So., F, Huntingtown, Md.
Konerth had the only goal in American's 1-0 victory over Drexel on Sunday.

JULIA WARD, LEHIGH So., GK, Belfast, Maine
Ward stopped 11 shots to help Lehigh to a 2-1 overtime win against Towson on Sunday.

Molten Patriot League Volleyball Weekly Awards

MOLTEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KATIE MCKERNAN, HOLY CROSS So., S, Sylvania, Ohio
McKernan posted a triple-double in a narrow five-set loss to Hartford (10 kills, 47 assists and 10 digs) and in a 3-1 win over Binghamton (10k, 41a, 15d) to close the Army Invitational. Prior to McKernan accomplishing the feat twice in a five-day span, there had been less than a half-dozen triple-doubles reported nationally this season through matches as of Sept. 10. The sophomore also helped lead the Crusaders to their first win over Army since the 2005 season and was named to the All-Tournament team.

MOLTEN ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
CAROLYN BOCKRATH, ARMY, Fr., MB, Newport Beach, Calif.
Bockrath set a season-high with 14 kills in the Black Knights win over Binghamton and also set a season-high with four digs in the five-set loss to Oakland. For the week, the freshman played 16 sets and averaged 2.81 kps, a .409 hitting percentage, .44 dps and .69 bps.

HONORABLE MENTION

AMY MATULA, LEHIGH, Jr., S, Memphis, Tenn.
Matula was named to the Crosstown Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading Lehigh to second place in the tournament with a 2-1 record .

WHITNEY KRANTZ, LEHIGH, Fr., OH, Centennial, Colo.
Krantz tallied 22 kills and a 3.14 kills per set average, the second-best on the team, in Lehigh's 2-1 showing at the Crosstown Invitational.

MONIKA SMIDOVA, AMERICAN, Sr., S, Plzen, Czech Republic
Smidova was named to the Villanova Classic All-Tournament team and matched season/career-high 16 digs in win over Villanova.

ERIN SWARTZ, AMERICAN, Fr., MB, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Swartz stood out in AU's win over Coppin State, with seven kills and three total blocks, while hitting .444 (5-1-9) against No. 24 Kansas.

MARY MULLEN, HOLY CROSS, Fr., MH, Mendota Heights, Minn.
Mullen had 5.75 kills per match, 4.0 digs per match, 4.5 blocks per match in Crusaders 2-2 week.

M-F Athletic Patriot League Cross Country Weekly Awards

M-F ATHLETIC MALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK
JOHN SWEENEY, NAVY Sr., Euclid, Ohio
Sweeney placed first at the Navy Invitational to lead the Mids to the overall title in the 10-team field at their home course. He won the 8K race in a time of 24:29.92 for his first individual title, edging out teammates Stephen Schroeder and Zachary Hebda by under a second.

M-F ATHLETIC FEMALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK
ELIZABETH WEILER, LEHIGH Jr., Chester Springs, Pa. Weiler finished in first place against Lafayette on Saturday to lead the Mountain Hawks to an 18-45 win in a dual meet versus the rival Leopards. Weiler won at her home course for the second straight time by finishing the 6K race in 21:34, which was 23 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She helped the Mountain Hawks to a 10th-straight win over the Leopards, and earned the M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Runner of the Week award for the second time this season.

M-F ATHLETIC MALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
JOHN TOLBERT, LEHIGH Fr., Fairfax, Va.
Tolbert placed third in the 8K against rival Lafayette in a time of 25:21 as the Mountain Hawks bested the rival Leopards 15-48 in Bethlehem. He finished nine seconds behind his teammate, Ryan Mahalsky, who won the individual title, and helped Lehigh to a 16th-straight victory over Lafayette.

M-F ATHLETIC FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
SARAH SPRING, LEHIGH Fr., Basking Ridge, N.J.
Spring placed fifth in the field in Lehigh's victory over Lafayette by completing the 6K course in 22:35. She was the top freshman finisher in the race and placed fourth among Lehigh's contingent.

HONORABLE MENTION

NICK REGAN, AMERICAN Sr., Kensington, Md.
Regan placed fifth at the Navy Invitational with a time of 24:39.53 on the 8K course, leading the Eagles to a runner-up finish in the 10-team field.

RYAN MAHALSKY, LEHIGH Sr., Hillsborough, N.J.
Mahalsky placed first in the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet with a time of 25:12 in the 8K race.

KELLEY ROBINSON, NAVY Jr., Nederland, Colo.
Robinson came in sixth place at Navy's Salty Dog Invitational by finishing the 6K course in 22:37.88, and helped the Mids to a second-place finish in the 11-team field.
