CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Patriot League teams excelled in the classroom once again with 89 percent of League squads posting an Academic Progress Rate score at or above the national average in the latest release of data from the NCAA on Wednesday.
The Patriot League finished with 173 of its 194 teams scoring at or above the national average multi-year APR of 979, which was up one point from last season. After 89 Patriot League teams received Public Recognition Awards last week for finishing among the top 10 percent in their sport in multi-year APR data, it was revealed on Wednesday that 76 of those squads came away with a perfect APR score of 1000. An additional 63 teams scored between 990-999 as more than 70 percent of Patriot League squads had at least a 990 score in multi-year APR.
The APR data also provided the multi-year national average for each sport. Every Patriot League team came in at or above the national average by sport in men's basketball, football, baseball, softball, women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's golf, men and women's tennis and men and women's track and field.
Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year, similar to a report card. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating.The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on the scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. National aggregates are based on all teams with usable data at the time of analysis.
