CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League has reached an agreement with the Northeast Collegiate Umpires (NECU), under the direction of Rob Healey, to serve in a supervisory role over the League’s baseball umpires.
In his new role, Healey will serve as the umpire assignor for the League through the NECU. He has served in a similar role, assigning non-conference competition, at the NCAA Division I level with the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), American Athletic Conference (AAC), Atlantic-10 Conference, and Atlantic Sun since 2012. He has also gained conference experience at the NCAA Division II level as a coordinator with the Sunshine State Conference, Sun Conference and Suncoast Conference. He has also gained experience within the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as the coordinator at the Southern Conference, Mid-Florida Conference and Region XXI.
Healey, a 1999 graduate of the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School, began his umpiring career in 1999 at the Minor League Baseball level, working at the Short Season A New York-Penn League. He moved to the Class A Midwest League in 2000 and to the Advanced Class A Florida State League for one season in 2001. Healey continued his ascent, moving to the Double-A Eastern League, where he spent three seasons (2002-04), before working for five seasons at the Triple-A International League (2005-09). He also worked in the 2009 Arizona Fall League.
In addition to his Minor League Baseball experience, Healey has worked as a NCAA Division I umpire since 2012, calling games in the ACC, Sun Belt and Atlantic-10. He also called Southeastern Conference (SEC) games for three seasons (2013-15). Healey will also be assisted by veteran umpires Greg Street, Scott Kennedy and Josh Miller throughout the assigning process.
