CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League has announced its 2017 Men’s Cross Country Academic Honor Roll, with the 10-member programs combining to have 119 student-athletes recognized for their excellence in the classroom.
To be eligible for the Fall Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 GPA in the fall semester and participate in one of the Patriot League’s seven fall championship sports.
Bucknell had a League-high 19 student-athletes make the Academic Honor Roll, while Navy and Lehigh each placed 15 on the list. American, Boston University and Colgate all had 11 student-athletes to make the honor roll. League champion Army West Point (10), Holy Cross (10), Lafayette (9) and Loyola Maryland (8) round out the order.
All eight members of the Academic All-Patriot League Men’s Cross Country squad made the academic honor roll, including Patriot League Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Navy sophomore Kevin Murray. American junior Matthew Rainey, Army West Point sophomore Ben Petrella, Bucknell senior Kyle Adams, Lehigh sophomore Jeffrey Kirshenbaum and senior Patrick Reilly, along with Navy sophomore Jake Brophy and senior Josh Hanna all made the academic honor roll, after being selected to the academic all-League squad in the fall.
Eight members of the 2017 All-Patriot League Men’s Cross Country squad made the academic honor roll with American, Army West Point and Navy having two apiece, while Bucknell and Lehigh each had one student-athlete earn both honors. The Eagles’ Rainey and Alaeldin Tirba, the Black Knights’ Petrella and Roman Ollar, Bucknell’s William Bordash, Lehigh’s Jeffrey Kirshenbaum and Navy’s Murray and Jake Brophy all earned a spot on the honor roll after earning all-League status.
The Patriot League Men’s Cross Country Academic Honor Roll featured 12 student-athletes that recorded a 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) or higher, led by Navy with four, including Brophy, Nick Goebelbecker, Josh Hanna and Michael McMahon. Also receiving a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester were Kyle Adams (Bucknell), Matt Vira (Bucknell), Colin Loughlin (Colgate), Matthew Weintraub (Lafayette), Henry Paul (Lehigh), Patrick Reilly (Lehigh), Seth Slavin (Lehigh) and Tyler Schoch (Loyola Maryland).
