Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (8.27.18)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The second week of Patriot League women’s soccer concluded Sunday. Lafayette tops the standings with a 3-0 record and is followed closely behind by American (3-0-1) and Army West Point (3-1-1).
 
Lafayette senior forward Alex Stanford was selected as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while American senior midfielder Audrey Denkler earned her first midfielder of the week when weekly awards were announced by the League office on Monday.
 
Stanford scored two goals to help the Leopards (3-0-0) remain perfect, while Denkler assisted on three of the Eagles’ (3-0-1) four goals in two games this weekend to help them stay undefeated.
 
Navy junior defender Baseley McClaskey was named the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, Colgate junior Kelly Chiavaro earned goalkeeper of the week and Army West Point freshman forward was selected rookie of the week.
 
Honorable mentions went out to American senior forward Yari Bradfield, Loyola Maryland senior midfielder Mia Sardella, Lafayette senior defender Lauren Johnson, and Bucknell junior goalie Theresa Adu-Attobrah.
 
Patriot League vs. Ranked Opponents
Bucknell fell to No. 18 Virginia, 1-0 on Sunday. Junior goalkeeper Theresa Adu-Attobrah recorded 11 saves and allowed only one goal.
 
NCAA Leaders
Stanford’s (Lafayette, Sr.) five goals are currently tied for first-place in NCAA DI. She is second in the nation in goals per game with 1.67. Stanford recorded a hat trick in Lafayette’s win over Delaware State on Aug. 19.
