CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — The second week of Patriot League play saw Boston University take home a pair of weekly awards and Army West Point’s Sydney Cassalia earn her third consecutive Goalkeeper of the Week award. Bucknell and Navy also both earned a weekly award when the League office announced award winners on Monday.
Army West Point sophomore goalie Sydney Cassalia was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the third consecutive week. Cassalia and the Black Knights posted their seventh shutout of the season and remain undefeated in League play.
Boston University senior midfielder Chelsea Churchill was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week for scoring the game-winning goal versus Lehigh. Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Messner tallied six saves in the shutout victory over Lehigh to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
Bucknell senior defender Maddie Dano was named the Patriot League Defender of the Week for scoring the game-winning goal against American and helping the Bison take home their first League win of the 2018 season. Dano’s goal was scored directly off a corner kick in the 26th minute.
Navy junior defender Alex Jackson became an offensive threat this week by posting three goals over two wins for the Midshipmen. Jackson was Navy’s lone scorer in a 2-1 victory over Loyola and was awarded the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award for her efforts.
Honorable mentions went out to Colgate junior defender Leah Lewis and Colgate junior goalkeeper Kelly Chiavaro. Both played key roles in helping the Raiders shut out the Army Black Knights in a scoreless tie on Saturday.
