Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (10.14.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.— The Lehigh Mountain Hawks took home two weekly awards this week with Holy Cross, Bucknell, and Army capturing one award each when the League office announced winners on Monday.

In a rematch of the 2018 Patriot League Championship game, Miranda Royds took home Patriot League goalkeeper of the week for her effort in goal in shutting out the Terriers. Also, Mary Casey was awarded Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week by helping the Mountain Hawks defeat the Terriers, 1-0.

Holy Cross' Kelly Crowley received Patriot League Midfielder of the Week after pushing the Crusaders over League-leading, Navy, 1-0 and giving the Crusaders their first conference victory on the season. Bucknell junior forward Jenna Marek, garnered Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for leading the Bison over the Colgate. Army West Point freshman Aunikah King was awarded Patriot League Rookie of the Week for lifting the Black Knights over Loyola Maryland.

Holy Cross defender Samantha Peters, Lafayette goalkeeper Natalie Neumann, Holy Cross goalkeeper Sophia Lettieri, Army West Point goalkeeper Sydney Cassalia, and Lafayette midfielder Sophia Hudson.

*Kaylee Donnelly, Bucknell goalkeeper, is ranked 44th in the country with 62 total saves.
*Miranda Royds, Lehigh goalkeeper, is ranked 28th in the country with an .885 save percentage.
*Paige Sim, Loyola Maryland goalkeeper, is ranked 35th in the NCAA with an .850 save percentage.
*Navy is ranked 9th in the country with .452 goals against average.
 
Senior Class Award Finalist
*Navy senior goalkeeper, Sydney Fortson, has been named a finalist for the 2019 women's soccer Senior Class Award.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jenna Marek, Bucknell, Forward, Jr., Orlando, Fla./The Master's Academy
*Marek returned from injury against Colgate to net the game-winning goal to lift the Bison to a 1-0 win.
*The header in the 34th minute was the sixth goal of Marek's career.
*The Bison have moved into sole possession of second place, one point behind Navy.
 
MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Kelly Crowley, Holy Cross, Sr., Midfielder, San Marino, Calif./ San Marino
*
Crowley scored the game-winning goal to lift the Crusaders over first-place Navy, 1-0.
*The senior midfielder helped lead the Crusaders to their first League victory on the season.
*Crowley totaled seven shots and four shots on goal for the Crusaders on Saturday.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mary Casey, Lehigh, Sr., Defender, Hatfield, Pa./ Gwynedd Mercy Academy
*Casey lead the defense in a 1-0 shutout of Boston University in a rematch of the 2018 Patriot League Championship.
*She scored the game-winning goal in the 41st minute to lead the Mountain Hawks to their first-ever victory over the Terriers.
*The senior defender was a staple on Lehigh's backline as they secured their sixth shutout of the season.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Miranda Royds, Lehigh, Jr., Goalkeeper, Ambler, Pa./ Hatboro-Horsham

Royds made seven saves on the afternoon on her way to shutting out Boston University, 1-0.
*She stymied a point-blank shot breakaway in the 88th minute to preserve the victory for the Mountain Hawks.
*She has now recorded 0.71 goals against-average and an 86.8 save percentage on the season.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

King scored the game-winning goal for Army West Point to lift them over Loyola Maryland, 1-0.
*This was her first career goal for the Black Knights.
