Lehigh's Levi Stoudt and Navy's Noah Song Selected in 2019 MLB Draft

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lehigh junior RHP Levi Stoudt and Navy senior RHP Noah Song were both selected during the second day of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. Stoudt went to the Seattle Mariners in the third round (97th overall) while Song, the 2019 Patriot League Pitcher of the Year, was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round (137th overall).

The Patriot League had two student-athletes taken in the top 200 picks in the MLB Draft for the first time in League history. Stoudt and Song are the second and third highest selected baseball student-athletes in Patriot League history, respectively. Lehigh catcher Matt McBride was selected in the second round (75th overall) in 2006.

Seattle Mariners Take Levi Stoudt with Third Round Pick in MLB Draft
Stoudt becomes the 13th player in Lehigh history to be drafted by a big-league franchise and the highest drafted pitcher since Paul Hartzell (10th round, 1979) and player since Matt McBride (2nd, 2006).

The junior had a stellar season in 2019 as the ace of the starting rotation, finishing the year 3-4 with a 3.53 ERA. He struck out 69 batters and walked just 21 in 63.2 innings of work. His ERA and strikeout totals ranked fourth among all qualified Patriot League pitchers. In addition to those stats, Stoudt also led his Mountain Hawk teammates in complete games (3) and opponent's batting average (.228). To conclude the year, the righty was named Second Team All-Patriot League for the second time in his career.

Noah Song Selected in Fourth Round of 2019 MLB Draft by Boston Red Sox
Song is the 10th selection in Navy baseball history in the MLB First-Year Player Draft and first since Luke Gillingham was selected in the 37th round of the 2016 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Song’s selection in the fourth round makes him the highest drafted player in program history. Prior to Song, Stephen Moore was the highest drafted Midshipmen after being selected with the 300th pick in the 2015 draft during the 10th round by the Atlanta Braves.

During his senior season, Song compiled a 1.44 ERA to rank sixth in the country and he leads the nation with 161 strikeouts. He posted a strikeout per nine innings mark of 15.41 this season, which is the best in NCAA Division I since 2009 and is tied for sixth all-time in Division I history. Song also posted a record of 11-1 this year and his 11 wins are tied for third-most in the country.

“I am super excited about being drafted and my head is still whirling,” Song said after being selected by the Boston Red Sox. “I really like the organization and Red Sox area scout has been great throughout the process. Boston is a place that is steeped in the tradition of winning, and I am really excited to have been selected by the Red Sox.”
