CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League has established a League-record with 3,123 student-athletes on the 2018-19 Academic Honor Roll. The League placed an all-time high 2,097 members on the Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll.
The 3,123 student-athletes that claimed academic honor roll accolades is an improvement of 112 honorees from the 2017-18 academic year. To be eligible for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.2 GPA or better during the semester in which their League championship is held. Previously, 1,026 student-athletes were named to the League’s Fall Academic Honor Roll.
The winter-spring academic honor roll is comprised of student-athletes from sports where the League championship is held during the winter and spring semesters, including baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field, women’s rowing and softball.
The fall academic honor roll encompasses student-athletes from men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball.
During the 2018-19 academic year, there were 1,832 women honored across 12 sports and 1,291 men recognized in 10 sports. The 312 honorees in women’s track and field were the most overall across all sports during the year. Women’s rowing finished second with 261 honorees with men’s track and field (222) in third. Women’s swimming and diving (221), women’s lacrosse (220), football (216), women’s soccer (197), men’s lacrosse (192), women’s cross country (149) and men’s swimming and diving (147) make up the top-10.
Bucknell placed a League-high 437 student-athletes on the academic honor roll with Lehigh (360), Holy Cross (353), Lafayette (334) and Colgate (303) making up the top five. Boston University (289), Loyola Maryland (284), Navy (242), Army West Point (201) and American (181) each contributed to record-breaking academic year numbers. Associate members Georgetown (79), Fordham (35), MIT (21) and Richmond (4) also helped the League establish the new record.
