HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior quarterback Grant Breneman threw one touchdown pass and rushed for a second, but No. 13 Colgate fell to Villanova, 34-14, in the first game of the 150th Anniversary season of College Football.
*Breneman completed 21-of-36 passes for 211 yards and led a pair of scoring drives in the second half.
*Junior running back Malik Twyman rushed for 47 yards on eight carries and caught six passes for 41 yards. *Sophomore receiver Garrett Oakey had a team-high 69 receiving yards on five catches.
*Senior cornerback Abu Daramy-Swaray finished with 11 tackles, including 1.0 tackle for loss (TFL) and senior linebacker Nick Ioanilli added nine tackles and 1.0 TFL.
*Villanova scored 27 unanswered points in the first half, with three touchdowns passes from junior quarterback Danny Smith and an interception return from junior cornerback Jaquan Amos.
*Colgate answered in the second half, as Breneman led a 12-play, 68-yard drive capped by a 10-yard touchdown reception by junior wide receiver Nick Draught.
*Early in the fourth quarter, Breneman concluded an eight-play, 77-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to bring the Raiders within two touchdowns, 27-14, with 13:26 remaining in the fourth quarter.
*The Wildcats sealed the game on Smith’s nine-yard touchdown run at the 8:41 mark in the fourth, to make the score 34-14.
