CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army West Point, Bucknell and Holy Cross each received one of the three Patriot League Baseball Weekly Awards when the League office announced honors on Tuesday.
Black Knights’ junior second baseman Tim Simoes was named Patriot League Player of the Week after batting .556 with two runs and five RBIs in two games against No. 20 Texas A&M.
Crusaders’ junior left-handed pitcher Luke Dawson was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for tossing 8.0 shutout innings to earn a win against Old Dominion on Saturday.
Bucknell freshman catcher Jake Wortman batted .444 while slugging .778 and reaching base at a .615 clip in three games against Virginia to collect Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
Bucknell sophomore outfielder Chris Cannizzaro, Lafayette junior left-handed pitcher JP Woodward along with Navy junior RHP Charlie Connolly and sophomore first baseman Zach Stevens all received honorable mentions for their performances during the first week of the season.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tim Simoes, Army West Point, Jr., 2B, Hopkinton, Mass./Xaverian Brothers
*Simoes batted .556 (5-for-9) with two runs and five RBIs in two games against No. 20 Texas A&M.
*He slugged .778 while posting a .600 on-base percentage and stole a base in two games.
*The junior second baseman went 4-for-6 with two doubles and five RBIs in a 14-12 loss to the Aggies on Sunday.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Luke Dawson, Holy Cross, Jr., LHP, Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast
*Dawson tossed a career-high 8.0 shutout innings to earn his first win in a 7-0 victory against Old Dominion on Saturday.
*The junior left-hander matched a career-high with four strikeouts while scattering seven hits and walked one.
*Dawson allowed just one extra-base hit, a leadoff double in the first inning.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jake Wortman, Bucknell, Fr., C, Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge
*Wortman hit .444 (4-for-9) while slugging .778 and posting a .615 on-base percentage in three games against Virginia.
*The freshman catcher went 3-for-5 with one run and five RBIs and his first collegiate home run in a 14-10 Bison win on Saturday.
*He drew four walks during the series, including three in the series opener on Friday.

*Cannizzaro batted .333 (5-for-15) while slugging .800 and reaching base at a .450 clip during a four-game series against Virginia. The sophomore outfielder scored five runs and drove in five with a home run and two doubles.
JP Woodward, Lafayette, Jr., LHP, Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin
*Woodward picked up his first win of the 2020 season by allowing two hits over 6.1 innings of shutout ball against VMI on Friday. He struck out three and walked three in the Leopards’ 5-0 win over the Keydets.
Charlie Connolly, Navy, Jr., RHP, Wayne, Pa./Radnor
*Connolly pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three hits and striking out two but did not figure in the decision in Navy’s eventual 3-1 win over Air Force on Saturday.
Zach Stevens, Navy, So., 1B, Lexington, Mass./Lexington
*Stevens batted .643 (9-for-14) while slugging 1.357 and reaching base at a .706 clip to help Navy go 4-0 with three wins over Air Force and one against Coppin State. He scored five runs and drove in four with five doubles and a home run.
