Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Players of the Week Announced (1.26.21)

American’s Harris and Army West Point’s Rucker collect weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American senior guard Jamir Harris claimed his first Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Army West Point freshman guard Jalen Rucker received rookie of the week honors when the League office announced weekly accolades on Tuesday.
 
Harris collected GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after averaging 28.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 61 percent (17-for-28) from the floor and 57 percent (13-for-23) from 3-point range to lead American to a weekend sweep over Loyola Maryland. He scored a career-high 33 points, including a game-winning buzzer-beater in Sunday’s 81-79 triple-overtime win over the Greyhounds.
 
Rucker picked up his first GEICO Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week award by averaging 14.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists to help Army West Point split a two-game weekend series against Navy. He scored a career-high 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting while dishing out four assists to lead the Black Knights to a win over the Mids on Sunday.
 
Army West Point senior guard Lonnie Grayson, Boston University senior forward Sukhmail Mathon, Holy Cross junior forward Gerrale Gates, Lehigh sophomore guard Evan Taylor, Loyola Maryland sophomore forward Santi Aldama and Navy junior guard Greg Summers all received an honorable mention for their performances during the weekend of League games.
 
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE GEICO MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

*Harris averaged 28.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 61 percent (17-for-28) from the floor and 57 percent (13-for-23) from 3-point range to lead American to a weekend sweep over Loyola Maryland.
*He scored a career-high 33 points, tying a program record with nine 3-pointers, including a game-winning buzzer-beater in Sunday’s 81-79 triple-overtime victory over the Greyhounds.
*The senior guard scored 23 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor, 4-for-8 from distance, and 7-for-8 from the foul line in the Eagles’ 71-70 win over Loyola Maryland on Saturday.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE GEICO MEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jalen Rucker, Army West Point, Fr., G, Baltimore, Md./Gilman
*Rucker averaged 14.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists to help Army West Point split a two-game weekend series against Navy.
*The Baltimore native scored a career-high 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting while dishing out four assists to help the Black Knights hand the Mids their first League loss in an 87-78 overtime win.
*He scored 11 points and had two steals in Army West Point’s loss to Navy on Saturday.

*Grayson averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent (12-for-24) from the floor to help Army West Point split its weekend series with Navy.
*The senior guard scored 19 points and grabbed six boards to help the Black Knights hand the Mids their first League loss
 
Sukhmail Mathon, Boston University, Sr., F, Shavertown, Pa./Holderness School (N.H.)
*Mathon averaged 10.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting 50 percent (9-for-18) from the floor to help Boston University sweep a two-game weekend series against Lafayette.
*He finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the Terriers’ 64-61 win over the Leopards on Sunday.
 
Gerrale Gates, Holy Cross, Jr., F, Charlotte, N.C./David W. Butler
*Gates averaged 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 59 percent (19-for-32) from the field during the Crusaders’ two-game weekend.
*The junior forward posted a career-high 27 points on Sunday after recording a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday against the Mountain Hawks.  
 
Evan Taylor, Lehigh, So., G, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West
*Taylor recorded back-to-back double-doubles, the first two of his career, averaging 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 63 percent (12-for-19) from the field in a two-game sweep over Holy Cross.
*The sophomore guard finished with 14 points and 10 boards in a 75-72 win against the Crusaders on Saturday. He led Lehigh with 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in an 82-74 victory on Sunday.
 
Santi Aldama, Loyola Maryland, So., F, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain/Canterbury Academy
*Aldama averaged a double-double with 22.5 points and 11.0 rebounds to go along with 4.0 assists and 2.0 blocked shots per game in the Greyhounds’ two games against American.
*The sophomore forward finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday before following up the performance with 20 points and 12 rebounds on Sunday.
 
Greg Summers, Navy, Jr., G, Ocoee, Fla./First Academy
*Summers averaged 12.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists to lead Navy in splitting its two-game weekend series with Army West Point.
*He posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds while dishing out five assists in the Mids’ 69-62 victory over the Black Knights on Saturday.
