Patriot League Women’s Basketball Notebook (1.29.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Six Patriot League women’s basketball teams meet for week five of Patriot League play this weekend with three games on Saturday, January 30, and three games on Sunday, January 31. All games will be available on ESPN+.

On Saturday, Lafayette at Loyola Maryland plays at 1 p.m., followed by Lehigh at Bucknell at 2 p.m. and Army West Point at Colgate at 3 p.m.

Sunday’s contests starts at 2 p.m. with Loyola Maryland at Lafayette, followed by Army West Point at Colgate at 3 p.m.  At 4 p.m., Lehigh hosts Bucknell.

GEICO Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (1.26.21)
Lehigh senior forward Mariah Sexe was named the Patriot League GEICO Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while guard Mackenzie Kramer of Lehigh received rookie of the week when the League office announced the results on Tuesday. Sexe averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 65.5 percent (19-for-29) from the field in a pair of wins over Holy Cross. In Saturday’s 87-68 victory, the senior scored a career-high 25 points in 23 minutes, going 12-for-19 (63.2%) from the field with 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. She also had two assists, a block and a steal. Sexe followed Saturday’s performance with a 16-point effort along with nine rebounds and two assists in Sunday’s 83-62 win.

Kramer scored 12 points on four 3-pointers, to go along with three assists in Lehigh's 87-68 victory on Saturday vs. Holy Cross. Her 12 points marked the fifth game she scored 10 or more points this season. Full Release


Patriot League Announces Women’s Basketball Schedule Adjustments
The Patriot League women’s basketball games between American and Lafayette, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sunday, Jan. 31 have been postponed. The Leopards will instead meet Loyola Maryland on Saturday and Sunday. Lafayette will travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on Loyola Maryland for a 1 p.m. tip-off at Reitz Arena on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Greyhounds will head to Easton, Pa. to take on the Leopards at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31. The contests between the Eagles and Leopards will be rescheduled following discussions with the two schools and the League office.

Navy Women’s Basketball Games vs. Loyola Maryland Postponed
The Patriot League women’s basketball games between Navy and Loyola Maryland scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sunday, Jan. 31 have been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test with the Navy women’s basketball program’s Tier 1. The contests between the Mids and Greyhounds will be rescheduled following discussions with the two schools and the League office. Full Release

Boston University’s Women’s Basketball Games vs. Holy Cross Postponed
Due to a rise in positive COVID-19 tests as the Boston University campus repopulates for the spring semester, the BU Department of Athletics and its varsity programs will immediately undergo a pause of all athletic activities for the remainder of January. The men’s and women’s basketball contests between Boston University and Holy Cross will be rescheduled following discussions with the two schools and the League office. Full Release

The 2021 Patriot League Basketball Plan
The 10 League institutions are divided into three regional mini-conferences (North, South and Central). The North Division includes Army West Point, Boston University, Colgate, and Holy Cross, and the South Division consists of American, Loyola Maryland, and Navy, while Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh make up the Central Division.
Teams will play four games against each mini-conference opponent with additional League games played outside of the mini-conferences to complete the 16-game regular-season schedule. The final day of the regular season is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28.
