Patriot League Women’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Players of the Week Announced (2.9.26)

Navy’s Barnett-Gay and Mesuch sweep Patriot League Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Navy junior guard Zanai Barnett-Gay was named the Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Navy freshman guard Zoe Mesuch earned Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the League office on Monday.
 
Barnett-Gay collected her second Patriot League Player of the Week honors this campaign and seventh in her career after averaging 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game in victories over Lafayette and American, extending the Mids’ program-record nine-game Patriot League win streak.
 
Mesuch secured Patriot League Rookie of the Week recognition for the fourth time this season after averaging 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 three-pointers per game in Navy’s 2–0 week to maintain its two-game lead in the League standings.
 
Holy Cross senior forward Meg Cahalan, Lehigh junior forward Whitney Lind, Loyola Maryland graduate forward Lex Therien, Lafayette freshman forward Maddison Krug and American freshman forward Charlotte Tuhy earned honorable mention recognition.
 
The Patriot League women’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

*Barnett-Gay averaged 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game to lead Navy to wins over Lafayette and American, extending the Mids’ program-record nine-game Patriot League win streak.
*The junior recorded back-to-back double-doubles, totaling 20 points and 13 rebounds with five assists against Lafayette before adding 22 points and 11 rebounds with five assists at American for her 10th double-double of the season.
*Barnett-Gay is just the seventh player in Navy women’s basketball history to reach 1,500 career points, surpassing the milestone during the first quarter against American.
 
Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week
Zoe Mesuch, Navy, Fr., G, Clintondale, N.Y./Wallkill
*Mesuch averaged 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 three-pointers per game as Navy went 2–0 to maintain its two-game lead in the League standings.
*The freshman scored nine points in the win over Lafayette before tallying 13 points at American, including 11 points in the third quarter.
*Mesuch shot 5-of-7 from the field against American, helping Navy use a 29-point third quarter to turn a three-point advantage into a 22-point lead after three quarters.

Meg Cahalan, Holy Cross, Sr., F, Middletown, N.J./Saint John Vianney
*Cahalan averaged 20.5 points while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 90.0 percent from the free-throw line in a 1–1 week for the Crusaders, highlighted by a game-high 23 points in the win over Boston University.

Whitney Lind, Lehigh, Jr., F, Florence, Ky./Randall K. Cooper
*Lind scored 17 points in wins over Loyola Maryland and Holy Cross, extending her double-figure scoring streak to seven straight games. She knocked down three three-pointers in the win over the Greyhounds.

Lex Therien, Loyola Maryland, Gr., F, Marlton, N.J./Cherokee
*Therien totaled 17 rebounds across two games, breaking the Patriot League and Loyola Maryland career rebounding records with 1,204 career rebounds. She posted 17 points and 10 rebounds at Lehigh before adding seven rebounds and four assists in the win over Boston University.

Maddison Krug, Lafayette, Fr., F, North Kingstown, R.I./St. Andrew’s
*Krug averaged nine points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in two games, including a game-high 13 rebounds at Navy. She followed with 10 points and eight rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting against Army West Point.

Charlotte Tuhy, American, Fr., F, Madison, N.J./Madison
*Tuhy recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds against Navy, leading all players on the glass. She paced the Eagles in rebounding in both contests during the week.
