HAMILTON – The NCAA released the 64-team field for the Division I Women's Volleyball Championship and Colgate will meet No. 4 Wisconsin in the first round on Friday at 7 p.m. (Central) at the University of Wisconsin Field House.
Colgate (18-9, 13-3 Patriot) captured the Patriot League regular season and tournament championships under 16th-year head coach
Ryan Baker. The Raiders knocked off sixth-seeded Navy in the semifinals and fourth-seeded American in the title match to bring the trophy home for the first time since 2012.
Julia Kurowski was named tournament MVP after registering 89 assists, 31 kills, and 27 assists in the two postseason matches. This came less than a week after the senior captain was named the Patriot League's Setter of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Cami Carfino and
Sophie Thompson joined Kurowski on the All-Tournament Team.
Colgate is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA tournament and first since 2012. The Raiders have met Wisconsin three times, most recently in 2015 for the HotelRED Invitational in Madison. The two teams faced each other in the 1996 NCAA Tournament, with Wisconsin prevailing 3-0. Colgate is 0-3 all-time against the Badgers.
Friday's winner will play the winner of Florida Gulf Coast-Texas Tech on Saturday at 6 p.m. (CT).
