2021 Patriot League Softball Championship: Day 1 Recap (5.13.21)

BOSTON – Top seed Boston University and Lehigh both earned wins on the first day of the 2021 Patriot League Softball Championship on Thursday at Boston University's Softball Field in Boston, Mass.

The No. 1 Boston University Terriers defeated No. 4 Army West Point, 5-4, in game one, while the No. 2 Lehigh Mountain Hawks claimed a 7-0 victory over No. 3 Colgate in game two.

Boston University and Lehigh will open Friday's action at 11 a.m. (game three), followed by Army West Point and Colgate (game four) at 1:30 p.m. The final game of the day will feature the winner of game four versus the loser of game three at 4 p.m. All three games are available on ESPN+.

BOSTON – The Terriers took the first win of the 2021 Patriot League Softball Championship as they defeated Army West Point 5-4 on Thursday.
* Sophomore infielder Caitlin Coker, junior outfielder Emily Gant, junior catcher Nicole Amodio, freshman infielder Kate Pryor and senior outfielder Jen Horita all scored one run for BU.
* The Patriot League pitcher of the year, senior Ali DuBois gave up eight hits, three earned runs and struck out five.
* The three earned runs are tied for the most the senior has given up this year in one game.
* Army West Point freshman outfielder Kayla Edwards, junior infielder Taylor Drayton and sophomore pitcher Jolie Duong each recorded two hits apiece.
* Edwards led the team in runs with two while Duong and junior infielder Ally Snelling scored one each.

* Lehigh sophomore infielder Emily Cimino went 3-4 with one run scored, while freshman infielder Brooke Cannon scored two runs.
* As a team, Lehigh finished with nine hits on the day.
* Junior pitcher Gabriella Nori struck out seven and allowed five base runners in the win.
* Colgate’s two hits in the game came from junior infielder Morgan Farrah, while graduate student catcher Virginia Irby reached base three times.
* Senior pitcher Bella Crow struck out five over 3 2/3 innings.
