Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (9.20.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell earned two of the Patriot League Women’s Soccer weekly awards, while Boston University, Lehigh and Loyola Maryland took home one, as the League announced the weekly honors on Monday.
 
BU senior forward Amy Thompson was named the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Bucknell freshman midfielder Teresa Deda earned midfielder and rookie of the week honors.
 
Lehigh senior Erin Keefe received defensive player of the week, while Loyola junior Paige Sim was named the goalkeeper of the week for the second straight week.
 
Boston University junior goalkeeper Gretchen Bennett, Bucknell junior forward Rylee Donaldson, Holy Cross freshman goalkeeper Olivia Dubin, Lehigh junior midfielder Julianna Bonner, and Loyola Maryland freshman midfielder Baylee DeSmit and junior forward Ada Clare Tempert all earned honorable mentions.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Amy Thompson, Boston University, Sr., F, Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge
* Thompson earned her first two-goal game as a Terrier in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Lafayette.
* The senior scored in both the 79th minute and the 89th minute to erase a 1-0 deficit and give BU the win.

Midfielder and Rookie of the Week 
Teresa Deda, Bucknell, Fr., M, New Rochelle, N.Y/New Rochelle
* Deda tallied three points in Saturday's 4-2 win over two-time defending champion Navy.
* Deda assisted on Rylee Donaldson's game-winning goal in the 56th minute. Deda then scored in the 86th minute to make it 4-2.
* The assist was her Patriot League-leading sixth of the season, while the goal was the first of her career.

Defensive Player of the Week
Erin Keefe, Lehigh, Sr., D, Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge
* Keefe accounted for two team saves in Saturday's 3-3 double-overtime tie vs. Army West Point.
* The senior’s first save came in the 48th minute, followed by another team save in the 97th minute.
* With just over a minute left in double overtime, Keefe also blocked an Army shot attempt from point-blank range.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week 
Paige Sim, Loyola Maryland, Jr., GK, Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista
* Sim made three saves, all in the second half, during Loyola's 2-1 overtime win over Colgate on Saturday.
* The junior helped the Greyhounds improve to 3-1-1 at home this season, and has allowed just three goals in those five starts.
* Sim has held opponents to one goal or fewer in each of her 18 career starts against Patriot League schools.
 
Honorable Mentions
Gretchen Bennett, Boston University, Jr., GK, Chantilly, Va./Paul VI Catholic
* Bennett made two saves in the second half to help BU earn a 2-1 comeback victory versus Lafayette.
 
Rylee Donaldson, Bucknell, Jr., F, Allentown, Pa./Salisbury
* Donaldson tallied two goals in a 4-2 victory over two-time defending-champion Navy. Donaldson gave the Bison the lead just 3:52 into the match, and early in the second half, she scored again to give Bucknell a 3-0 advantage.
 
Olivia Dubin, Holy Cross, Fr., GK, Newton, Mass./Newton South
* Dubin allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of action against American as she made six saves in the contest.

Julianna Bonner, Lehigh, Jr., M/F, Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake
* Bonner had a hand in two of Lehigh's three goals in Saturday's 3-3 draw vs. Army West Point. The junior assisted on the Mountain Hawks' second goal at the 9:08 mark, followed by the go-ahead goal at the 75:12 mark to give Lehigh a 3-2 advantage.
 
Baylee DeSmit, Loyola Maryland, Fr., M, Towson, Md./McDonogh School
* DeSmit recorded the primary assist on Ada Clare Tempert's 92nd-minute winner during Loyola's 2-1 overtime victory over Colgate on Saturday.
 
Ada Clare Tempert, Loyola Maryland, Jr., F, Baltimore, Md./Mercy
* Tempert scored the game-winning goal in Loyola's 2-1 victory over Colgate on Saturday, sending a shot into the lower right corner at 1:51 into the first overtime period. The goal was her team-leading third of the season, and her second game-winner in Loyola's last three games.
