BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland junior guard Cam Spencer received Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week when the League office announced weekly accolades on Monday. Lehigh freshman guard Keith Higgins Jr. captured rookie of the week honors.
Spencer collected GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time this season after averaging 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists to lead Loyola Maryland to a 3-0 week with wins over Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh.
Higgins Jr. earned GEICO Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week honors for the second-consecutive week after averaging 15.0 points on 56 percent shooting (9-for-16) from 3-point range to help Lehigh go 2-1 with wins over Holy Cross and Bucknell.
Boston University graduate student Sukhmail Mathon, Colgate junior forward Keegan Records, Lafayette junior guard Leo O’Boyle, Lehigh junior guard Evan Taylor and Navy senior guard John Carter Jr. received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL GEICO PLAYER OF THE WEEK

*Spencer averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 53 percent from the field (25-for-47) to help Loyola Maryland go 3-0 with wins against Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh.
*On Monday, he scored 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field to lead the Greyhounds to a 71-67 over Bucknell.
*Spencer finished with 14 points in a 74-60 victory over Lafayette on Thursday before posting a game-high 26 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 69-57 win against Lehigh on Sunday.
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL GEICO ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

*Higgins Jr. scored 15.0 points per game while shooting 56 percent (9-for-16) from 3-point range in addition to 4.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists in Lehigh’s 2-1 week.
*The freshman guard scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor to go with a career-high nine assists, five rebounds and two steals in a 97-64 win over Bucknell on Thursday.
*Higgins Jr. scored 12 points and dished out three assists in the Mountain Hawks’ 77-69 victory against Holy Cross.

Sukhmail Mathon, Boston University, Gr., F, Shavertown, Pa./Holderness School (N.H.)
*Mathon averaged a double-double in the Terriers’ three games last week, posting 17.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. He posted 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-53 win over American. Mathon scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds against Navy, becoming the 10th Terrier to reach 700 career rebounds.
Keegan Records, Colgate, Jr., F, South Kingstown, R.I./St. Andrews
*Records scored 16 of his career-high 25 points in the second half to lead the Raiders to a 69-50 victory over Navy. The junior forward connected on 11-of-13 attempts from the floor. In two games last week, Records averaged 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 79 percent (11-of-14) from the field.
Leo O’Boyle, Lafayette, Jr., G, Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep
*O’Boyle scored a game-high 16 points to lead Lafayette to a 68-54 against Army West Point. The junior guard averaged 11.3 points, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals during a three-game week for the Leopards.
Evan Taylor, Lehigh, Jr., G, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West
*Taylor averaged 18.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while shooting 60 percent (18-for-30) from the floor during the Mountain Hawks’ 2-1 week. Taylor posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards in a 77-69 win over Holy Cross. He finished with 21 points in a 97-64 victory against Bucknell. Taylor also posted a team-high 20 points and nine rebounds in a loss vs. Loyola Maryland.
John Carter Jr., Navy, Sr., G, Spring Hill, Tenn./Summit
*Carter Jr. averaged 10.0 points and 5.3 rebounds to lead Navy to a 2-1 week with wins against Lafayette and Boston University. The senior guard totaled 19 points and six rebounds in a 69-55 win against Lafayette.
