k received Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time when the League office announced weekly accolades on Monday. Lehigh freshman guard Tyler Whitney-Sidney captured rookie of the week.
Funk collected GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 25.5 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists to help the Bison go 1-1 week. Funk scored 27 of his game-high 34 points after halftime in an 82-80 overtime win vs. the Greyhounds on Sunday night.
Whitney-Sidney earned his first GEICO Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after averaging 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists during the Mountain Hawks’ 1-1 week. He scored a career-high 19 points in an 84-71 win vs. Army West Point last week. This is the fourth-consecutive week a Lehigh guard has claimed rookie of the week honors.
American graduate student guard Stacy Beckton Jr., Army West Point sophomore guard Jalen Rucker, Boston University graduate student forward Sukhmail Mathon, Colgate senior guard Nelly Cummings, Lehigh senior forward Jeameril Wilson and Navy senior guard John Carter Jr. received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

*Funk averaged 25.5 points on 51 percent (18-for-35) from the floor to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists to help the Bison go 1-1 last week.
*He scored 27 of his game-high 34 points after halftime in Bucknell’s 82-80 overtime win over Loyola Maryland on Sunday. On the defensive end of the court he also held Loyola Maryland’s Cam Spencer, the League’s leading scorer, to a season-low 11 points.
*Funk finished with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists in a loss vs. Navy on Wednesday.

*Whitney-Sidney averaged 15.0 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 56 percent (10-for-18) from the floor to help Lehigh to a 1-1 week with a win over Army West Point.
*The Somerville, Mass. native posted career-highs of 19 points and four assists in the Mountain Hawks’ 84-71 win over the Black Knights.
*He finished with 11 points in a loss at Holy Cross, the fourth time he has reached double-figures in his last six games.

*Beckton Jr. became the 33rd American University men’s basketball player to reach 1,000 career points. He scored 14 points in a 67-49 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday, and finished with a team-high 19 points in a loss against Navy on Saturday.

*Rucker averaged 16.0 points and 3.0 assists to help Army West Point split a two-game week. He finished a team-high 16 points and three assists in a 60-56 win against Lafayette on Saturday. He led the Black Knights with 18 points in a loss vs. Lehigh.
Sukhmail Mathon, Boston University, Gr., F, Shavertown, Pa./Holderness School (N.H.)
*Mathon averaged a double-double with 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, while shooting 60 percent (12-for-20) from the floor to help Boston University record wins against Lafayette (81-62) and Colgate (76-72). Mathon posted game-highs of 22 points and 11 boards in a win against the Raiders.

*Cummings averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists during the Raiders’ 1-1 week. He extended his streak of double-figure scoring games to nine in his 19-point, eight-rebound performance in a loss vs. Boston University.

*Wilson averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in Lehigh’s 1-1 week. He finished with 12 points and a career-high five assists in a win vs. Army West Point (84-71) before posting 16 points and 13 boards in a loss at Holy Cross.

*Carter Jr. finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in Navy’s 47-45 victory over American on Saturday. He went 3-for-3 from 3-point range in the Mids’ 81-63 win at Bucknell on Wednesday.
