Navy’s Victoria Tran Named 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Top 30

Tran becomes the fourth Patriot League student-athlete to receive top-30 recognition

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy women’s soccer graduate Victoria Tran was named a 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award Top 30 honoree when it was announced by the NCAA.

Tran is the fourth Patriot League student-athlete to make the NCAA Top 30 list and the second in as many years after Bucknell field hockey’s Kaelyn Long made the 2021 list. Boston University women’s golfer Emily Tillo was a top-30 honoree in 2016, with America’s Keira Carlstrom receiving the recognition in 2006.

During her decorated four-year career at Navy, Tran was a two-time Patriot League Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, three-time All-League selection and two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American. The Clarksville, Md. native helped the Mids to a 2020-21 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship while being selected as the 2020-21 Patriot League Midfielder of the Year.

The four-year starter finished her playing career in Annapolis with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in honors robotics and engineering with a cumulative GPA of 3.98. Tran was honored as the U.S. Naval Academy’s Class of ’22 recipient of the Cheryl Dolyniuk Carlan Trophy, awarded to the top graduating female midshipmen who excelled in athletics, leadership and academics.

Selected from 577 school nominees — a group that was narrowed to 156 nominees by conference offices — the Top 30 honorees include 10 from each of the three NCAA divisions. All have demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

The selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division from the Top 30, and the nine finalists will be announced this fall. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will choose the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year later this fall.
