Patriot League GEICO Football Players of the Week Announced (10.17.22)

Fordham and Colgate split weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fordham and Colgate split the four Patriot League GEICO weekly football awards when the League office announced the honors on Monday.
 
Fordham senior quarterback Tim DeMorat captured Patriot League Football GEICO Offensive Player of the Week for the sixth time this season after throwing for 371 yards and three touchdowns in the Rams’ win over Stony Brook.
 
Fordham sophomore linebacker James Conway earned his third Patriot League Football GEICO Defensive Player of the Week of the season and second in a row after recording 15 tackles, 2.5 TFLs and one sack against the Seawolves.  
 
Colgate sophomore placekicker Spencer Biscoe was voted Patriot League GEICO Special Teams Player and Rookie of the Week after connecting on a 49-yard field goal and two extra points against Army West Point.  
 
Raiders’ freshman wide receiver Treyvhon Saunders was named Patriot League GEICO Rookie of the Week after catching his first collegiate touchdown pass against the Black Knights.
 
Bucknell sophomore running back Rushawn Baker, senior safety Brent Jackson, Colgate senior linebacker Tyler Flick, Fordham junior placekicker Brandon Peskin, Lehigh sophomore running back Gaige Garcia and senior defensive back TyGee Leach all received honorable mentions for their performances on Saturday. 
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL GEICO OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tim DeMorat, Fordham, Sr., QB, Merritt Island, Fla./Viera
*DeMorat completed 27-of-39 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 17/22 Fordham to a 45-14 victory over Stony Brook.
*The senior signal-caller helped the Rams take a 38-0 lead in the fourth quarter.
*His 33 touchdown passes lead the FCS and is three shy of breaking the Patriot League single-season record set by Fordham’s Michael Nebrich in 2013.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL GEICO DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James Conway, Fordham, So., LB, Omaha, Neb./Millard West
*Conway led the Rams with 15 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, one sack and a pass breakup to lead No. 17/22 Fordham to a 45-14 win over Stony Brook.
*His 2.5 TFLs was a season-high, while his 15 tackles matched a season-high in helping the Rams hold the Seawolves scoreless through three quarters.
*Conway is second in the Patriot League averaging 10.0 tackles per game through seven games.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL GEICO SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Spencer Biscoe, Colgate, So., PK, Landisville, Pa./Hempfield
*Biscoe connected on a career-long 49-yard field goal to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead against Army West Point.
*His field goal was the fifth-longest in Colgate program history and the longest since 1979.
*He also converted both of his extra-point attempts.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL GEICO ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Treyvhon Saunders, Colgate, Fr., WR, Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley
*Saunders caught his first collegiate touchdown pass in Colgate’s loss to FCS opponent Army West Point on Saturday.
*The freshman wide receiver caught a team-high five passes for 45 yards against the Black Knights.
*The Columbus, Ohio native has 13 catches for 110 yards through six games this season.

Rushawn Baker, Bucknell, So., RB, Victor, N.Y./Victor
*Baker rushed for a career-high 113 yards and Bucknell’s lone touchdown on 20 carries in a loss at Yale. He also caught one pass for nine yards.
 
Brent Jackson, Bucknell, Sr., S, Denton, Texas/John H. Guyer
*Jackson matched his career-high with 12 tackles and recorded his first collegiate interception against Yale. He was part of a Bison defensive effort that forced five Bulldogs turnovers.
 
Tyler Flick, Colgate, Sr., LB, Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central
*Flick led the Raiders with 12 tackles in their loss against FBS opponent Army West Point. The senior linebacker finished three tackles short of his career high.
 
Brandon Peskin, Fordham, Jr., PK, Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East
Peskin connected on a 24-yard field goal and went 6-for-6 on PAT attempts in a victory over Stony Brook.
 
Gaige Garcia, Lehigh, So., RB, Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia (Michigan)
*Garcia carried 25 times for a career-high 162 yards and a touchdown in Lehigh’s loss at Cornell. His 13-yard touchdown in the second quarter gave the Mountain Hawks a five-point halftime lead. 
 
TyGee Leach, Lehigh, Sr., DB, Norristown, Pa./Malvern Prep
*Leach recorded seven tackles 2.0 TFLs and a strip sack against Cornell on Saturday. He also helped the Mountain Hawks’ secondary hold the Big Red to a season-low 202 passing yards.
