2022 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Postseason Awards Announced (10.28.22)

BETHLEHEM, Pa — Army West Point and Bucknell each tallied two of this year's six women's soccer major awards when the League office announced its postseason honors on Friday afternoon. Boston University and Lehigh recorded one apiece.

Army senior defender Emma Richey received defensive player of the year, while head coach Tracy Chao earned coach of the year for the first time.

Bucknell sophomore midfielder Teresa Deda was named midfielder of the year, and teammate junior Jenna Hall earned goalkeeper of the year honors.

Lehigh sophomore forward Corinne Lyght nabbed Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, while Boston University freshman midfielder Giulianna Gianino was named rookie of the year.
 
Eleven student-athletes were named to the first- and second all-League teams, and 14 student-athletes were placed on the third team. Army and Boston University led the way with six all-League selections each, followed by Bucknell and Lehigh with five apiece. Navy placed four members on the all-League teams. American and Loyola Maryland had three, followed by Colgate (2), Holy Cross (1) and Lafayette (1).

The major awards and All-Patriot League teams were voted on by the 10 Patriot League women's soccer head coaches, who could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.
 
2022 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year
Corinne Lyght, Lehigh, So., F, Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood
* Lyght capped the regular season with six goals and one assist for a team-leading 13 points.
* Her six goals led Lehigh and tied for first in the League this season, while her point total is good for fourth in the conference.
* The senior was named offensive player of the week on October 17 when she scored two goals in the team’s 4-2 win over Loyola Maryland.
* In 29 career appearances for Lehigh, Lyght has scored nine goals and dished out four assists for 22 points.
* Lyght was named to the women’s soccer all-League second-team last year as a freshman.

2022 Patriot League Midfielder of the Year
Teresa Deda, Bucknell, So., M, New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle
* Deda, the 2021 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Tournament MVP, led the team and the League in assists (8) this season.
* Deda also recorded 12 points – good for second on the team and fifth in the League.
* In 39 career games, Deda has tallied four goals and 20 assists for 28 points.
* Deda was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Third Team, the Patriot League All-Tournament Team, and the All-League First Team in 2021.

2022 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year
Emma Richey, Army West Point, Sr., D, Chandler, Ariz./Perry
* Richey helped back a defensive line that held opponents to 0.83 goals per game as Army went 6-1-2 in League play.
* The senior collected third-team All-League honors last year, while being named to the all-tournament team.
* The senior defender aided in the Black Knights’ seven shutouts on the year.
 
2022 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year
Jenna Hall, Bucknell, Jr., GK, Huger, S.C./Miss Porter’s School (Conn.)
* In 15 games in goal this season, Hall collected 54 saves for a .844 save percentage and posted a 0.74 goals-against average for the Bison.
* In 42 career appearances, the junior owns a 17-12-9 record, 191 saves, and 15 shutouts, to go along with a .827 save percentage and a 1.03 goals-against average.
* Hall was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team and was placed on the All-Patriot League Third Team in 2021.
 
2022 Patriot League Rookie of the Year
Giulianna Gianino, Boston University, Fr., M, Norwell, Mass. /Norwell High
* Gianino capped her freshman season with three goals for six points as she appeared in 18 contests.
* The two-time rookie of the week’s three goals sits tied for third on the team.

2022 Patriot League Coach of the Year
Tracy Chao, Army West Point
* Chao led the Black Knights to a 6-1-2 record in Patriot League play and the No. 1 seed of the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship.
* In her third year at the helm, Chao also led the team to a regular season title – the first one since 2010.
* Chao holds an overall record of 17-11-5 at Army.
