AUSTIN, Texas - The 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American Women's Soccer Teams were announced on Tuesday and junior defender
Chloe Dawson from Navy was recognized as a member of the Academic All-American First Team. Made up of candidates who had earlier been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, Dawson (Fairfax, Va.) was selected as one of 13 student-athletes to the first team. A 2021 Second Academic All-American, Dawson is one just four multi-time honorees over the three teams that were announced as she joins Duke's Delaney Graham, New Mexico's Jadyn Edwards and Auburn's Anna Haddock. Overall, as part of the 34 honorees over three teams, Dawson was one of seven juniors, as well one of 12 student-athletes not from a Power 5 conference.
Named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team for the second straight year in November, Dawson, an honors robotics & control engineering major, has been a key asset for the Midshipmen team on and off the field as she's garnered the 2020-21 Patriot League Rookie of the Year accolade as a freshman followed by a spot on the All-Patriot League Second Team as a sophomore in 2021. Playing in all 19 games for Navy this past season, Dawson was on the field for 1,374 minutes of action, the third-most on the team. On the offensive end of the pitch, the junior recorded 16 shots and tallied assists against The Citadel, Bucknell and Colgate, while helping the Mids earn the program's 12th straight Patriot League Tournament appearance. As an outside marking defender, Dawson helped Navy post a 0.95 goals against average and eight shutouts. In the classroom at the Naval Academy, the Fairfax, Virginia native has earned recognition on the USNA's Supt's and Dant's Lists in each of her first four completed semesters, while posting a 3.98 grade point average. Amongst the Class of 2024, Dawson resides inside the top-20 of both the Overall and Military Orders of Merit.
As a program, this is eighth straight year that at least one Midshipmen was selected to the CSC Academic All-American Team. All-time, Navy now has had 22 selections to the CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-American Team since 1997. Dawson is the 13th all-time first team selection.
The College Sports Communicators organization (formerly CoSIDA) has been selecting the nation's pre-eminent Academic All-American team for over one-half of a century. Since the program's inception in 1952, CSC/CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Criteria for the award requires a student-athlete be at least a sophomore, earn a varsity letter in their sport and have attained a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.
