Patriot League Announces GEICO Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (2.28.22)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Army West Point earned two of the five Patriot League GEICO Men's Lacrosse weekly awards while Boston University, Bucknell and Navy each earned one when the League announced the awards on Monday.

Army senior attack Brendan Nichtern was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Teammate senior goalkeeper Wyatt Schupler earned goalkeeper of the week also for the second time in 2022.
 
Boston U junior long-stick midfielder Roy Meyer claimed defensive player of the week while Bucknell senior faceoff specialist Nick Crovatto received faceoff specialist of the week for the second-straight week.

Navy freshman attack Henry Tolker rounded out the awards as rookie of the week.
 
BU senior goalkeeper Matt Garber and senior attack Timmy Ley, Bucknell attack Dutch Furlong, Holy Cross defender Chris Conlin, Lehigh graduate student goalkeeper James Spence, Loyola Maryland graduate students attack Aidan Olmstead and faceoff specialist Bailey Savio, and Navy senior faceoff specialist Jacob Jarosz earned honorable mention recognition.
 
The Patriot League Men's Lacrosse weekly awards are selected in a vote by each school's sports information director, who is not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
 
Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week
Brendan Nichtern, Army West Point, Sr., A, Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa (USMAPS)
* Nichtern accounted for six goals and 11 assists for 17 points to help the No. 15 Black Knight to wins over Siena and NJIT.
* In Army's 20-10 win over Siena, he finished with a career-high seven assists and a career-best 10 points. His seven assists are tied for the third-most in a single game in program history and are tied for the most in the nation this season.
* Meanwhile, his 10 points are the third-most in a single game in program history and are tied for the second-most in the nation this season.
* In the 18-4 victory over NJIT, Nichtern had a game-high four assists and scored three goals for a game-high seven points.

Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week
Roy Meyer, Boston University, Jr., LSM, Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade
* Meyer matched his career high with four caused turnovers to go with three ground balls in the team's 16-7 win over UMass.
* He was part of a Terrier defensive unit that held a UMass offense that had just scored 19 goals the previous week to just seven.
* Meyer leads BU in both caused turnovers (nine) and ground balls (14) through three games.
 
Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Nick Crovatto, Bucknell, Sr., FO, New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan
* Crovatto went 17-for-24 in faceoffs and collected a game-high 13 ground balls in Bucknell's 15-7 victory over Marist.
* The senior finished one ground ball shy of the school standard he matched during Bucknell's previous game against St. John's.
 
Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week
Wyatt Schupler, Army West Point, Sr., GK, Ponte Verde Beach, Fla./Ponte Verde
* Schupler made 26 saves in two games as the No. 15 Black Knights defeated Siena and NJIT last week.
* In the 20-10 win over Siena, he finished with 15 saves and a .652 save percentage.
* The goalkeeper then had 11 saves and allowed only one goal for a .917 save percentage while playing in only the first half in the 18-4 win versus NJIT.
 
Rookie of the Week
Henry Tolker, Navy, Fr., A, Catonsville, Md./Loyola Blakefield
* Tolker recorded his third-consecutive hat trick with a three-goal, one-assist performance against High Point on Saturday.
* He is the first Navy freshman to record hat tricks in three-consecutive games since Ian Dingman in 2003. (4 vs. UMass, 3 vs. Rutgers, 4 vs. Stony Brook)
* Tolker is also the first Navy player with three or more hat tricks in a season since 2019 when Christian Daniel posted three hat tricks. (5 vs. UMBC, 3 vs. Maryland, 4 vs. Bucknell)
 
Honorable Mentions
Matt Garber, Boston University, Sr., GK, Westport, Conn./Staples
* Garber collected 10 saves in a 16-7 win over a UMass team that had scored 19 goals the previous weekend.

Timmy Ley, Boston University, Sr., A, Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa
* Ley matched his career-high with seven points thanks to four goals and three assists to spark the Terrier offense in the team's 16-7 win over UMass. Ley has scored a goal in 25 straight games and has tallied eight goals this season.
 
Dutch Furlong, Bucknell, So., A, Baltimore, Md./Gilman School
* Furlong logged a career-best seven points on a career-high five goals and two assists in the 15-7 win against Marist.
 
Chris Conlin, Holy Cross, Sr., D, Chatham, N.J./Chatham
* Conlin led the day defensively for the Crusaders picking up five ground balls and three
caused turnovers against the Warriors. The senior headed up the defensive unit that kept Merrimack from scoring for more than 20 minutes.
 
James Spence, Lehigh, Gr., GK, Springfield, Pa./Springfield
* Spence made 11 saves against No. 14 Cornell this past weekend. For the season, he owns a 9.52 goals-against average and 53.3 save percentage.
 
Aidan Olmstead, Loyola Md., Gr., A, Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post
Olmsted tied his career-high with five assists and was one off his career-best with seven points in the Greyhounds 13-12 loss to No. 6 Rutgers on Saturday.
 
Bailey Savio, Loyola Md., Gr., FO, Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich
* Savio went 16-for-29 on faceoffs against No. 6 Rutgers, picking up eight ground balls. During the game, he moved into fourth all-time in the Patriot League in ground balls.
 
Jacob Jarosz, Navy, Sr., FO, Gambrills, Md./Severn School
* Jarosz won 11 of the 16 draws (.688) he took against High Point and grabbed a season-best eight ground balls.
