Patriot League Announces Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (3.29.22)

Terriers claim five weekly honors, Navy wins one

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University won five of the six Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field weekly honors when the League office announced awards on Tuesday. Navy picked up the remaining accolade.
 
Boston University freshman Toby Makoyawo collected Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week after running a wind-aided 9.90 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Texas Relays. His preliminary time of 10.12 seconds ranks fourth in NCAA DI this spring.
 
Terriers’ senior Andrea Claeson earned Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after posting a League-best time of 4:18.21 in the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays.
 
Sophomore Emma Kowalski received Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her performances in the discus (46.44m) and hammer throw (47.76m). Freshman Asia Hamilton captured rookie of the week honors for her performances in the long jump (6.06m) and high jump (1.70m) at the Bobcat Invitational.
 
Navy sophomore Joshua Boamah claimed Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the shot put (15.96m) and hammer throw (55.59m) at the Navy Invitational.
 
Bucknell sophomores Siobhan O’Sullivan and Meghan Quinn, Lehigh senior Kyle Burke and freshman Skyler Mott, Loyola Maryland junior Abbi Potticary, Navy freshman Sami Bollinger, senior Katie Halbert and junior Alex Rizzo all received honorable mentions for their performances this week.
 
Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week
Toby Makoyawo, Boston University, Fr., Sprints, South Ruislip, England/St. Joan of Arc
*Makoyawo won the 100 meters at the Texas Relays on Saturday with a wind-aided time of 9.90 seconds. His preliminary time of 10.12 is the fastest in the Patriot League, fourth in NCAA DI this season and the second-fastest by a sprinter from the Northeast Region.
*He also anchored the Terriers’ 4x100-meter relay team to a school-record time of 39.89 seconds on Friday.

Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Andrea Claeson, Boston University, Sr., Distance, Lulea, Sweden/Dragonskolan, Umea
*Claeson posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:18.21 in the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays.
*Her time is the best in the Patriot League, eighth in NCAA DI and the second-fastest in BU program history.

Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Joshua Boamah, Navy, So., Throws, San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch
*Boamah recorded IC4A-qualifying marks in the shot put (15.96m) and hammer throw (55.59m) to win both events at the Navy Invitational.
*The sophomore has the second-best shot put and sixth-best hammer throw distance in the Patriot League this season.

Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week
Emma Kowalski, Boston University, So., Throws, Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby
*Kowalski posted an ECAC-qualifying distance in the discus of 46.44 meters at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State. It was the second-longest throw in program history.
*She also posted career bests in the hammer throw (47.76m) and shot put (12.47m). Her hammer throw distance was the fourth-best in program history.
  
Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Rookie of the Week
Asia Hamilton, Boston University, Fr., Jumps, Mississauga, Ont./St. Edmund Campion
*Hamilton won the long jump at the Bobcat Invitational with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 6.06 meters for the best mark in the Patriot League and 30th in NCAA DI this season.
*She also placed fifth in the long jump by clearing an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.70 meters, tied for the best mark in the League.

Siobhan O’Sullivan, Bucknell, So., Throws, Quincy, Mass./Ursuline Academy
*O’Sullivan won the shot put at the Navy Invitational with a distance of 13.68 meters to rank fourth in the Patriot League this season.
 
Meghan Quinn, Bucknell, So., Sprints, Lititz, Pa./Warwick
*Quinn won the 100 meters (12.06) and 200 meters (25.30) at the Navy Invitational while also competing on the Bison 4x100-meter relay team that placed second in 47.15. Her 100m time is the fourth-fastest in program history.
 
Kyle Burke, Lehigh, Sr., Middle Distance, Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights
*Burke posted an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:47.79 in the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays for the best time in the Patriot League this season. He also recorded an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:50.56 to finish second in the 800 meters at the Navy Invitational.
 
Skyler Mott, Lehigh, Fr., Jumps, Mille Neck, N.Y./Friends Academy
*Mott won the high jump at the Navy Invitational by clearing 1.95 meters. He also finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.73 meters.
 
Abbi Potticary, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Distance, Hebron, Conn./RHAM
*Potticary won the 3,000 meters at the Navy Invitational, finishing in 10:06.03, more than 11 seconds in front of a field that included competitors from Bucknell, Lehigh and Navy. Her time is the third-fastest in program history.
 
Sam Bollinger, Navy, Fr., Jumps, Temecula, Calif./Great Oak
*Bollinger won the triple jump at the Navy Invitational by posting a season-best 11.96 meters. Her mark is third in the Patriot League this season and tops among first-year students.
 
Katie Halbert, Navy, Sr., Sprints, Keller, Texas/Keller
*Halbert won the 100-meter hurdles at the Navy Spring Meet with an ECAC-qualifying time of 14.04, the best time in the League and seventh-fastest in program history. She was also part of the Mids’ 4x100-meter relay team that finished first in 46.64 seconds.
 
Alex Rizzo, Navy, Jr., Middle Distance, Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville
*Rizzo won the 800 meters at the Navy Spring Meet with an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:49.91, the fastest time in the Patriot League and ninth fastest in NCAA DI this outdoor season.
