BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League earned
Outstanding Program Series for its continuing
#TitleIXat50 production in the collegiate conferences and governing bodies division of the 2022 SVG College Sports Media Awards. The honor was announced in advance of the awards ceremony on Monday, June 13, at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta.
Patriot League Assistant Commissioner for Multimedia Jimmy Johnson and multimedia journalist Maria Trivelpiece have written, shot and edited nearly 20 parts of the ongoing series to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX that premiered in February. Distinguished alumnae, administrators and current student-athletes are featured in various stories ranging from highlighting the accomplishments of trailblazers from around the Patriot League to “Advice to Little Girls.”
“I’m very proud of the work Jimmy and Maria have done in highlighting the impact Title IX has had on not only the Patriot League, but society as a whole,” Patriot League Commissioner Jennifer Heppel said. “I’m appreciative of the platform and opportunity to tell these stories and thankful to all of the individuals who have and will participate in this series.”
Johnson and Trivelpiece have worked closely with communications personnel, coaches and senior administrators from the Patriot League’s member institutions to identify and tell the powerful stories of the Title IX era and share reflections on the importance of the groundbreaking legislation.
"I'm extremely proud of the work Maria and I have completed thus far on our ongoing series covering the 50th Anniversary of Title IX," Johnson said. "The conversations with our female student-athletes, coaches and administrators for this series have been eye-opening for me, and to be recognized for our hard work on this project is truly humbling.”
“I’m so thankful for the Title IX pioneers that paved the way so I could work in sports,” said Trivelpiece, a Fordham softball alum. “It feels full circle to win an award that honors their fight and how far we’ve come”
