Patriot League Announces Volleyball Players of the Week (8.30.22)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell and Lehigh split the Patriot League Volleyball weekly awards as the League announced the first round of honors for the 2022 season.
 
Lehigh sophomore outside hitter Megan Schulte earned player of the week while Bucknell freshman outside hitter Bri Frazilus was named rookie of the week.
 
American freshman outside hitter Adelina Berisha and senior outside hitter Zeynep Uzen, Colgate junior outside hitter Libby Overmyer, Lehigh freshman right-side Natalie Luscomb, Loyola Maryland junior outside hitter Lauren Link, and Navy junior outside hitter Jamie Llewellyn all earned honorable mentions.
 
American’s Goldberg Earns 800th Career Win
American head coach Barry Goldberg recorded his 800th career win when the team defeated George Washington, 3-1, on Saturday. The team defeated the Colonials by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-16, and 27-25. The winningest coach in League history, Goldberg is a seven-time Patriot League Volleyball Coach of the Year and has guided the Eagles to 16 Patriot League Championship titles in the last 21 seasons.

Player of the Week
Megan Schulte, Lehigh, So., OH, Boise, Idaho/Timberline
* Schulte finished the weekend hitting .351 with 50 kills, 14 digs, nine aces, and three blocks as the team went 3-0 at the FAU Invitational. She was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament and was a member of the All-Tournament team. 
* The sophomore matched a career-high with 21 kills in the season-opening 3-0 win vs. Mercer on Friday. She hit .389 for the match.
* She then hit .467 against Alabama A&M with eight kills, four service aces, and three digs.
* In the three-set win at Florida Atlantic, Schulte paced the team with 11 kills and eight digs with one block.
 
Rookie of the Week
Bri Frazilus, Bucknell, Fr., OH, Cary, N.C./North Raleigh Christian Academy
* Frazilus led Bucknell to a 3-0 weekend at the Red Flash Classic with 42 kills (4.2 kills/set) and finished second on the roster with 32 digs (3.2 digs/set). She added three block assists.
* She posted two double-doubles, including a 14-kill, 16-dig performance in the 3-1 win over Bellarmine.
* The freshman then recorded a match-high 22 kills and 11 digs to go with a .514 hitting percentage as the Bison defeated Gardner-Webb, 3-0.
 
Honorable Mentions
Adelina Berisha, American, Fr., OH, Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood
* Berisha posted 2.80 kills per set to rank 10th in the League in her first weekend of collegiate play. She helped lead American to a 3-0 record with nine kills vs. Georgetown and George Mason, and 10 kills vs. George Washington.
 
Zeynep Uzen, American, Sr., OH, Istanbul, Turkey/TED Istanbul College
* Uzen posted 19 kills in four-set wins over Georgetown and George Washington along with 13 kills in a win over George Mason. She added four blocks at Georgetown and notched her first double-double of the season with 10 digs vs. George Washington.
 
Libby Overmyer, Colgate, Jr., OH, Houston, Texas/Kingwood Park
* The junior outside hitter tallied a career-high and match-high 23 kills against Villanova. She followed that up with a match-high 15 kills in Colgate's first win of the season against UMBC.
 
Natalie Luscomb, Lehigh, Fr., RS, Annapolis, Md./Broadneck
* Against Alabama A&M (W, 3-0), Luscomb hit .357 with five kills, zero errors, and three blocks. In a 3-0 victory against FAU, she tied a career-high eight kills with three digs and three total blocks.
 
Lauren Link, Loyola Maryland, Jr., OH, Shakopee, Minn./Academy of the Holy Angels
* Link averaged 4.83 kills per set for a total of 58 in the three matches at the Penn State Invitational. She posted a double-double in the win over Duquesne, putting away 16 kills in three sets to go with 13 digs. She also tallied 21 kills in each of the next two matches against West Virginia and Penn State.
 
Jamie Llewellyn, Navy, Jr., OH, Port Deposit, Md./The Tome School
* Llewellyn led Navy on the weekend in kills (39/3.55 kps), aces (5/0.45 aps), and digs (20/1.82 dps). The junior recorded a career-high tying 14 kills and a career-high tying five aces in Navy's four-set loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday. She tied her career-high for kills later that day when she registered 14 kills and a .400 hitting percentage in a three-set loss at Maryland.
