Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (9.19.22)

American collects two weekly honors, Bucknell and Lehigh receive one apiece

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University claimed two of the four Patriot League Field Hockey weekly honors when the League office announced them on Monday. American and Lehigh claimed one award apiece.
 
Boston University sophomore Payton Anderson was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Terriers hold Lehigh to one goal while scoring two goals in a 4-1 victory. Freshman forward Amalia Preece scored the Terriers’ first goal of the game to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Lehigh senior midfielder Sarah Bonthuis captured Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after totaling eight points on three goals and two assists in two games.
 
American junior Bryn Underwood captured Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time this season after making four saves in the Eagles’ 2-1 overtime win over Lafayette on Saturday.
 
American senior defender Charllene Boshoff and sophomore midfielder Federica Turina Dellamaggiore, Bucknell sophomore goalkeeper Nora Frederick, Lafayette freshman forward Hannah Findlay, freshman goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni and senior defender Simone Hefting and Lehigh senior goalkeeper Maddie Kahn all received honorable mentions for their performances last week.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarah Bonthuis, Lehigh, Sr., Midfielder/Forward, Oud-Beijerland, Netherlands/HC Hoeksche Waard
*Bonthuis totaled eight points on three goals and two assists to help Lehigh go 1-1 last week, including a victory against Sacred Heart.
*The senior midfielder scored Lehigh’s lone goal 4-1 loss to Boston University.
*She finished with two goals and two assists in a 5-1 victory against Sacred Heart.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Payton Anderson, Boston University, So., Defender, Christchurch, New Zealand/Burnside
*Anderson anchored a Terriers’ defense that held Lehigh to seven shots, four on goal, in a 4-1 victory in their Patriot League opener.
*The sophomore defender scored two goals, including the go-ahead goal on a penalty stroke in the third quarter.
*She also scored Boston University’s first goal of the fourth quarter to help seal a victory.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Bryn Underwood, American, Jr., Goalkeeper, Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson
*Underwood made four saves, including one in overtime, to lead American to a 2-1 overtime victory at Lafayette in the Eagles’ Patriot League opener.
*The junior goalkeeper made three saves in the third quarter, two coming off penalty corners, limiting the Leopards to one goal in a frame where they managed six shots.
*She stopped a Leopards’ shot one minute into the extra period, allowing the Eagles to score the game-winner two minutes later.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Amalia Preece, Boston University, Fr., Forward, Santiago, Chile/Santiago College
*Preece scored her first collegiate goal against Lehigh in the Terriers’ 4-1 Patriot League-opening victory.
*The freshman forward redirected a pass from classmate Martu Coulo for BU’s first goal, creating a 1-1 tie.
*The Santiago, Chile native finished with four shots on goal in the win.

Charllene Boshoff, American, Sr., Defender, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa/St. John’s D.S.G
*Boshoff scored the Eagles’ first goal in their 2-1 overtime victory over Lafayette. Boshoff and American’s defense held the Leopards to seven shots, including five on goal.
 
Federica Turina Dellamaggiore, American, So., Midfielder, Villa Carlos Paz, Argentina
*Turina Dellamaggiore scored the game-winning overtime goal in American’s 2-1 victory over Lafayette in their Patriot League opener.
 
Nora Frederick, Bucknell., So., Goalkeeper, Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury
*Frederick made seven saves and allowed two goals in two games to help Bucknell go 1-1, including a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday. She also made seven stops in a 2-1 overtime loss vs. Providence.
 
Hannah Findlay, Lafayette, Fr., Forward, Napier, New Zealand/Taradale
*Findlay scored the game-winning goal at the 19:08 mark of the second quarter in Lafayette’s 1-0 victory over New Hampshire.
 
Raffi Fragomeni, Lafayette, Fr., GK, Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes
*Fragomeni made four saves to record a shutout in Lafayette’s 1-0 victory over New Hampshire.
 
Simone Hefting, Lafayette, Sr., Defender, Den Bosch, Netherlands/Stedelijk Gymnasium Den Bosch
*Hefting anchored a Lafayette defense that held American to seven shots on goal. On Sunday, she helped hold New Hampshire to four shots on goal in a 1-0 victory.
 
Maddie Kahn, Lehigh, Sr., Goalkeeper, Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City
*Kahn made a career-high 16 saves in Lehigh’s League-opening 4-1 loss against Boston University. She also made two saves and allowed one goal in a 5-1 win against Sacred Heart on Sunday.
