BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University claimed three of the four Patriot League M-F Athletic Cross Country Runners of the Week when awards were announced on Tuesday. Bucknell captured one weekly accolade.
Boston University graduate student Veronica Kriss received her first Patriot League M-F Athletic Female Cross Country Runner of the Week award after placing 30th out of 164 competitors at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
The Terriers swept the M-F Athletic Rookie of the Week honors, with freshman Parker Schneider claiming the men’s honor while freshman Vera Sjoberg received the women’s award for their performances at the Battle in Beantown.
Bucknell senior Samuel Whittaker claimed Patriot League M-F Athletic Male Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season after his 13th-place finish at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
Bucknell freshman Caryn Rippey received an honorable mention for her performances over the weekend.
PATRIOT LEAGUE TEAMS IN THE POLLS
When the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released regional polls on Monday, the Navy women remained sixth, with Lehigh ranking 14th in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Boston University checks in at eighth, while Army West Point is ranked 14th in the Northeast Region.
On the men’s side, three teams are ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Region, with Navy in seventh, Lehigh at 10th and Bucknell in 12th. The Black Knights and Terriers are ranked 10th and 13th in the Northeast Region.

Samuel Whittaker, Bucknell, Sr., Salem, Conn./East Lyme
*Whittaker placed 13th out of 126 runners at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown with an 8K time of 24:22 in a field that included Dartmouth, Harvard, Northeastern, Syracuse, Virginia and League rival Boston University.
*Whittaker helped the Bison to a 10th-place team finish out of 15 squads.
PATRIOT LEAGUE M-F ATHLETIC FEMALE CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Veronica Kriss, Boston University, Gr., Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park
*Kriss placed 30th out of 164 runners at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown with a 5K time of 18:07.
*The Highland Park, Ill. native was the top Patriot League finisher in a field that included Bucknell, in addition to Boston College, Syracuse, Virginia and Yale.

*Schneider finished 33rd in a field of 126 runners at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown with an 8K time of 24:59.
*He helped the Terriers to a sixth-place team finish out of 15 squads, the best for a Patriot League team in a field that included Bucknell.
PATRIOT LEAGUE M-F ATHLETIC FEMALE CROSS COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Vera Sjoberg, Boston University, Fr., Stockholm, Sweden/Rudbeck
*Sjoberg finished 37th out of 164 runners at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown with a 5K time of 18:18, the second-best mark by a Patriot League competitor in a field that included Bucknell.
*She helped the Terriers to a 12th-place team finish out of 19 squads.
HONORABLE MENTION
Caryn Rippey, Bucknell, Fr., West Lawn, Pa./Wilson
*Rippey placed 42nd among 164 runners at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown with a 5K time of 18:25. She helped the Bison to a 13th-place team finish out of 19 squads in the talented field.
