Patriot League Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards (10.17.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American and Lafayette split this week’s Patriot League Volleyball awards for the second time this season when the League announced weekly honors on Tuesday.

American graduate student outside hitter and this week’s player of the week, Zeynep Uzen averaged 3.70 kills per set and 2.30 digs in a 1-1 week.
 
Lafayette freshman outside hitter Emma Patmon recorded her third double-double of the year to be named rookie of the week.

Army West Point senior middle blocker Paige Fixemer, Colgate junior outside hitter Abby Shadwick, Lehigh senior outside hitter Lylah Washington, and Navy senior outside hitter Jamie Llewellyn earned honorable mentions.

2023 Patriot League Volleyball Championship
The 2023 Patriot League Volleyball Championship begins with quarterfinal-round action on Tuesday, Nov. 14, followed by semifinals on Friday, Nov. 17. The Patriot League Volleyball Championship Game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 19. Both the semifinal and championship matches will be played at the No. 1 seed. All five matches are available on ESPN+.
 
Player of the Week 
Zeynep Uzen, American, Gr., OH, Istanbul, Turkey/TED Istanbul College
* Uzen averaged 3.70 kills per set and 2.30 digs per set, while hitting .276 in a 1-1 week which concluded with the Eagles handing Colgate its first Patriot League loss of the season.
* The outside hitter recorded a double-double of 21 kills and 12 digs in the 3-2 win over Colgate, hitting .385 with only one error.
* She also led American with 16 kills and 11 digs against Navy. 
 
Rookie of the Week
Emma Patmon, Lafayette, Fr., OH, Round Rock, Texas/Cedar Ridge
* Patmon recorded 14 kills and hit .361 against Loyola on Saturday.
* The freshman tallied 11 digs to give her three double-doubles this year.
* Patmon also had two aces during the match along with a pair of block assists. 

Honorable Mention
Paige Fixemer, Army West Point, Sr., MB, Omaha, Neb./Millard South

* Fixemer had 16 kills, 3.20 kills per set, a .314 percentage, nine digs, and two blocks against Lehigh. 

Abby Shadwick, Colgate, Jr., OH, Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay
* Shadwick posted her fourth double-double in the last six matches with 15 kills and 11 digs against American.

Lylah Washington, Lehigh, Sr., OH, San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan
* Washington recorded 14 kills and three total blocks in a 3-2 comeback victory over Army.
 
Jamie Llewellyn, Navy, Sr., OH, Port Deposit, Md.
* Llewellyn led the Mids with 15 kills, 15 digs and two blocks in the 3-2 win over American.
