No. 4 Boston University and No. 6 Colgate Advance to 2023 Penfed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Soccer Semifinals (10.29.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 4 Boston University and No. 6 Colgate advanced through the quarterfinal round on Sunday with wins over Lehigh and Loyola Maryland, respectively.
 
After a 2-0 win over Loyola, Colgate will take on No. 1 Army West Point at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 in West Point, N.Y. BU will head to Lewisburg, Pa. to play No. 2 Bucknell at 7 p.m. Both games will be available on ESPN+.

BOSTON – Boston University advanced to the semifinal round off penalty kicks (2-1) against No. 5 Lehigh on Sunday afternoon.
* BU senior defender Kayla Ross scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Giulianna Gianino at the 10:35 mark to give the Terriers the early lead.
* Lehigh freshman forward Aminah Baruwa put the Mountain Hawks on the board in the 30th minute off a cross from junior midfielder Hope Flanegin to tie the game 1-1.
* Lehigh increased its lead to 2-1 with an own goal at 57:40 but BU’s Gianino answered on a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2.
* The game was deadlocked at 2-2 through double-overtime, sending the game to penalty kicks.
* Sophomore forward Margy Porta and Gianino netted penalty kicks for BU.
* Senior Emma Roesing was the lone student-athlete to score a penalty kick for Lehigh.
* Terrier junior goalkeeper Celia Braun collected four saves.
* Lehigh sophomore Maggie Ousouljoglou made nine saves in goal.
* BU will head to Lewisburg, Pa. on Thursday, Nov. 2 to take on No. 2 Bucknell at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

BALTIMORE – The Colgate Raiders defeated Loyola Maryland 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 Penfed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship.
* At the 37:23 minute mark, Colgate sophomore forward Ellie Stokes scored her second goal of the season, assisted by senior midfielder Sara Anelli to put the Raiders up 1-0 at the half.
* Raiders’ Ari Benzanson scored the second goal to secure the eventual 2-0 win.
* Junior Alli Popham made four saves in goal for Colgate, while Loyola graduate student goalkeeper Paige Sim recorded one save.
* The Raiders will face No. 1 Army West Point on Thursday, Nov. 2 in the semifinals at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
