2023 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Academic Awards Announced (11.1.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell senior defender Brooke Tracey earned the 2023 Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade when it was announced by the League office on Wednesday.
 
Tracey is also one of the 11 members of the sport's Academic All-Patriot League team. Six of the 10 Patriot League programs are represented on the academic all-League squad, with Bucknell leading the way with three student-athletes on the team.
 
American junior midfielder Brooke Steel (Biology, 4.0), BU junior forward Morgan Fagan (Business Administration & Management, 3.96) and sophomore midfielder Giulianna Gianino (Human Physiology, 3.88), Bucknell senior goalkeeper Jenna Hall (Global Management, 3.57) and junior forward Paige Temple (Early Childhood Education) joined Tracey on the academic team.
 
Holy Cross junior defender Emily Bubonovich (Biology & Computer Science, 4.0), Loyola Maryland junior midfielder Baylee DeSmit (Elementary Education, 3.61) and graduate student goalkeeper Paige Sim (Biochemistry, 3.91), and Navy senior defender Chloe Dawson (Honors Robotics & Control Engineering, 3.98) and junior forward Alexa Riddle (Cyber Operations, 3.45) were also selected to the academic team.
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player within his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out during the summer.

These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League women's soccer sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

2023 Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Brooke Tracey, Bucknell, Sr., D, Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott             
* Tracey, a 2023 First-Team All-League member, owns a 3.85 cumulative GPA as a business analytics major at Bucknell.
* She has been placed on the Dean's List every semester at Bucknell and is a member of the Omega Rho and Mortar Board honor societies.
* Along with two other student-athletes, she co-founded Bucknell's chapter of Morgan's Message, a group workshop that addresses mental health issues.
* Tracey works as a teaching assistant in the Freeman College of Management where she works with the Intro to Organization and Management course.
* Bucknell's team captain, Tracey led a defensive unit to eight shutouts this season and 19 during the past two seasons.
* The senior is part of a defense that did not allow a goal in five Patriot League Tournament games on the way to 2021 and 2022 championship titles.
