Patriot League 2023 Swimming and Diving Championship Day Two Recap (2.16.22)

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Navy women’s swimming and diving program maintains its lead after two days of the 2023 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium. Army sits in second followed by Bucknell in third. Army currently ranks first on the men’s side with 305.5 points followed by Navy (298.5) and Bucknell (192.5).

500-yard Freestyle
Army West Point freshman Molly Webber broke the Academy record and took first in the women’s race with a time of 4:47.90. Bucknell senior Sabrina Vumbacco placed second (4:48.23) and Navy junior Cameron Horner rounded out the top three with a time of 4:50.50. Vumbacco’s time is good for second in school history.

On the men’s side, Army freshman Brice Barrieault won the race in 4:20.25. Navy sophomore Everet Andrew placed second (4:21.23), closely followed by Army sophomore Wes Tate (4:21.33).

200-yard Individual Medley
Loyola Maryland junior Lily Mead earned first place with a time of 1:58.45, while Navy freshman Lauren Walsh finished second (2:00.10). Army freshman Catriona Gilmore placed third with a time of 2:00.58.

In the men’s competition, Army junior Sam Wesley finished first with a time of 1:45.81, followed by Loyola senior Max Verheyen (1:45.82). Bucknell junior John Gehrig and Army sophomore Alex Edwards tied for third place as they recorded a time of 1:46.21.
50-yard Freestyle
American junior Mimi Watts took first-place honors with a time of 22.93, while Army sophomore Meghan Cole (22.93) and Navy junior Maya Novack (23.43) finished second and third, respectively.

Bucknell senior Leo Kuyl topped the podium with a time of 19.75 setting the school record in the 50-yard free. Loyola junior Caleb Mauldin finished as the runner-up (19.76). Army sophomore Owen Harlow rounded out the top three with a time of 19.98.

Women’s 1-Meter Diving
Boston University’s junior Sumi Cameron earned first place with a score of 300.35, while teammate sophomore Sophia Souza took third place (287.20). Army sophomore Minh Donnell recorded second place with a score of 296.25.

400-yard Medley Relay
Army’s women’s team of freshman Layne Peterson, junior Aurelie Migault, sophomore Meghan Cole, sophomore Clara Williams took first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:39.12. Navy sophomore Megan Murphy, freshman Lauren Walsh, sophomore Caroline Irwin, and sophomore Tiffany Shields placed second (3:39.70). Loyola junior Lily Mead, freshman Paige Simko, freshman Michela Schultz, and sophomore Charley Tulio finished third with a time of 3:43.09.

The Midshipmen took first place on the men’s side as the team of junior Pat Colwell, senior Jackson Schultz, junior Jonah Harm, and junior Garrett McGovern recorded a time of 3:09.22. Army’s relay team, made up of sophomore Alex Edwards, freshman Kohen Rankin, senior Jacob Powell, and sophomore Owen Harlow, finished second in 3:11.42. Bucknell rounded out the top three (junior Chris Fabian, sophomore Justin Disanto, junior John Gehrig, and senior Leo Kuyl) with a time of 3:13.34.

Day three of the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships begins Friday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m. Live coverage of the 2023 Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships will be available on ESPN+.
