U.S. Naval Academy Men and Women Capture 2023 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Titles (2.18.23)

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Navy men’s and women’s programs won the 2023 Patriot League Swimming & Diving titles on Saturday night at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium.

The Midshipmen men scored 856.5 points, Army West Point finished second with 846.5, and Bucknell placed third with 538.5 points. Loyola Maryland (455) and Boston University (247) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Lehigh (180.5), American (148.5), Lafayette (132), Holy Cross (110), and Colgate (107.5) round out the 10-team men’s standings.
 
Navy’s women totaled 799 points to place first. The Black Knights finished second with 615.5 points, the Bison placed third with 540.5 points, Boston U was fourth with 381 points and Lehigh rounded out the top five with 377.5 points. Loyola Maryland (246), American (221), Colgate (202.5), Holy Cross (148), and Lafayette (81) completed the 10-team women’s championship field.

Patriot League Major Awards
Navy junior Jonah Harm was named Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Meet. He won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 45.87 and recorded a third-place finish in the backstroke (48.12).

Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Meet was awarded to Army West Point freshman Brice Barrieault. He finished first in both the men’s 500-yard freestyle (4:20.25) and the 1,650-yard freestyle (15.09.45).

Navy sophomore Blakeman Shaw was named Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Meet after winning the three-meter dive (363.35) and the one-meter dive (364.95).

American junior Mimi Watts was awarded the Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Meet. She won the 100-yard butterfly (52.76), the 50-yard freestyle (22.52) and the 100-yard freestyle (49.80).

Boston University junior Sumi Cameron was named Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Meet as she captured gold in the women’s one-meter diving competition (300.35). She also finished the weekend with a 302.35 mark in the women’s three-meter competition.

Navy freshman Lauren Walsh was named Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Meet after earning first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.05. Walsh also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.50) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.10).

Navy’s John Morrison was named Patriot League Women’s Swim Coach of the Year. Army’s Brandt Nigro was awarded Patriot League Men’s Swim Coach of the Year. Navy’s Rich MacDonald earned Patriot League Joe Suriano Men’s Diving Coach of the Year, while BU’s Brad Snodgrass was named the Patriot League Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.
