Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards (8.28.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy earned two of the Patriot League Women's Soccer Weekly Awards, and Boston University, Holy Cross and Lehigh each recorded one laurel, as the League announced the awards on Monday.

Navy sophomore forward Marlee Heaven was named the offensive player of the week after scoring two goals in the 3-3 tie against Maryland, while teammate senior goalkeeper Mattie Gallagher earned the goalkeeper of the week as she posted a .810 save percentage in two games.
 
BU sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Stickelman earned midfielder of the week after scoring her first collegiate goal in the team’s win over Albany.
Holy Cross senior defender nabbed defensive player of the week as she was part of a Holy Cross defense that gave up just two goals in two games.  Lehigh freshman forward Aminah Barawu rounded out the weekly awards as the rookie of the week after scoring her first collegiate goal in the 2-2 draw against Cornell.
 
Army West Point sophomore defender Jordan Follenweider, BU freshman forward Samantha Aronson, Holy Cross sophomore midfielder Olivia Perez, and Lehigh junior forward Faith Dobosiewicz all earned honorable mentions.

The weekly awards were voted on by the women’s soccer head coaches from each institution, with restrictions on voting for their own student-athletes.

Offensive Player of the Week 
Marlee Heaven, Navy, So., F, Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery
* Heaven recorded two goals in the 3-3 tie against Maryland last Thursday.
* Down 2-0 coming out of halftime, Heaven headed home scores in the 49th and 52nd minutes to quickly make it a 2-2 contest.

Midfielder of the Week 
Mackenzie Stickelman, Boston University, So., M, East Northport, N.Y./John H. Glenn
* Stickelman headed home the game-winner in the 83rd minute for BU's comeback victory over Albany on Sunday, converting a corner kick for BU's second goal. The tally marked her first career goal.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Cerys Balmer, Holy Cross, Sr., D, Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn
* Balmer helped a Holy Cross defensive unit that only gave up two goals in a 1-0-1 week against Maine and Bryant.
* The senior scored a goal off a header at the 25:10 mark in the first half at Maine, followed by recording the equalizing goal off a corner at the 81:08 mark against Bryant.

Goalkeeper of the Week 
Mattie Gallagher, Navy, Sr., GK, Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior
* In ties against Maryland (3-3) on Thursday and Ohio (1-1) on Sunday, Gallagher posted a 2.00 GAA and a .810 save percentage.
* In back-to-back contests, the senior registered eight or more saves as she started with eight stops versus Maryland before setting a season-high on Sunday against Ohio with nine saves.

Rookie of the Week
Aminah Baruwa, Lehigh, Fr., F, Easton, Pa.
* First-year Aminah Baruwa scored her first career goal in the final minutes to lead Lehigh to a 2-2 draw with Cornell on Sunday.

Honorable Mention
Jordan Follenweider, Army West Point, So., D, Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trails

* Follenweider scored her first career goal against Auburn and logged 156 minutes on the back line for the Black Knights last week.

Samantha Aronson, Boston University, Fr., F, Bethesda, Md./Stone Ridge
* Aronson notched her first collegiate point on the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute of BU's 3-2 victory over Albany. The rookie inserted a corner kick that found the head of Mackenzie Stickelman for BU's second tally in a minute.

Olivia Perez, Holy Cross, So., M, Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony’s

Perez started in both games this week at Maine and versus Bryant as she scored the game-winning goal at the 84:28 mark in the second half to lead the Crusaders to their first win of the season over Bryant.

Faith Dobosiewicz, Lehigh, Jr., F, Westfield, N.J.
* Dobosiewicz netted two goals for the Mountain Hawks this week, including the equalizer in Thursday's 1-1 tie with Saint Joseph's.  The Westfield, N.J. native also scored the first goal of the game in the 2-2 tie to Cornell on Sunday.

Tatum Kelly, Navy, Jr., D, Pinehurst, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons
* Kelly led Navy's effort in the defensive backfield as the Mids earned a pair of ties this week versus Maryland (3-3) and Ohio (1-1), holding the teams to four goals.
